A History of Violence--it finally opened up here, and I thought that it was really good. It had some great intensity, especially because of the juxtaposition of the family moments with Viggo popping people off. Mortenson is definitley the Harrison Ford of the Lord of the Rings movies (though none of those actors were really typecast...except for maybe Orlando Bloom). I'd give it a B+, and would bump "Brokehack Mountain" off for this.

Hellraiser: Deader- It was okay. THE SERIES (BEST TO WORST): Hellworld Inferno Bloodline Hell on Earth Hellraiser Deader Hellseeker Hellbound Let's turn it upside down and we'll get a picture closer to what the Hellraiser series really is! (though putting the original film in the middle you made this trick ineffective, too, dammit!). Saw: Munich. A good film. NOT a masterpiece. 6/10

Burial Ground-The latest in my recent Italian zombie craze has also proven to be the best of the bunch. Some great gore effects, creepy setting, loads of atmosphere, enough scares to satisfy, and the best looking zombies I've ever seen. I don;t care what I said about it in the past, these are truly terrifying and creative and are now what I will think of when I hear zombies. Essential zombie/gore fan viewing. 9.5/10.

Cannibal Holocaust. Proves once again such films ain't my cup. The animal cruelty sucks Satan's cock!

Yeah, I too thought it was a bit much, but I thought, for it's genre, it wasn't that bad. Prefer it over Ferox and Hall of the Mountain God, but I still think it could've trimmed some of it away.

They shouldn't have shot the animal bits in the first place! The turtle thing was just unbearable!

True, they shouldn't have done that, but as a way of showing what their civilization was like, I think it did a good job. It does go too far a lot, but that's the beauty of the film: by doing those scenes, it characterized the natives as just regular people (who just happen to be cannibals) being themselves until the crew arrives and forces them to conduct such activities for the sake of getting great footage for their show. It's a character trait that works wonderfully to build them up as savages, but then once the camera crew arrive and we see their actions to them, all knowledge of the previous scenes is pretty much ignored as we see the real savages get what they deserved. As a character trait, I think it works and does a good job, but looking at it at face-value, it is very sickening.
