Hostage. Surprisingly good - lots of suspense, surprises and violence.
A tip for Quorth: don't watch it, man.

YOJIMBO (1961) Classic Akira Kurosawa about a ronin (samurai without a master) who plays two criminal gangs against each other to free a town from their clutches. Kurosawa regular, Toshiro Mifune plays Sanjuro the samurai. Made me want to rewatch the Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood remake A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS, which I haven't seen since I was a kid. Have never seen the Walter Hill/Bruce Willis remake, LAST MAN STANDING. Am I missing anything there? 8/10
HOUSE OF DRACULA (1945) Ooh, the further milking of three franchises, as Dracula, Frankenstein & the Wolfman are brought back once again. No attempt is even made to explain how the Wolf Man & Dracula are still alive as both were killed in the last film. What's new this time? A female hunchback. Lame & tired. 3/10

But all of them (including "Yojimbo") I found pretty boring. "Fitsful" would be a REAL chore without Volante, Eastwood, the music and the odd moment of Leone goodness. I just think the basic story is so so dull. I much prefer "For a Few Dollars More" and I much prefer "Sanjuro".

Hostage. Surprisingly good - lots of suspense, surprises and violence. A tip for Quorth: don't watch it, man. The Bruce Willis flick from last year? Why should I avoid it? I've already seen it. I think, as I recall, would've given it a 6/10 or 7/10. It was alright as I recall. Why did you think I should avoid it?

Overall, I thought it was quite entertaining. As for the two remakes, like I said, haven't seen FISTFUL in many, many years so I don't really remember it and may give LAST MAN a try one of these days, but obviously I'm in no hurry as it's what, about ten years old now?. I'll be watching the YOJIMBO sequel, SANJURO, soon, as it's a Kurosawa I've never seen. 42nd, how would you compare A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS and FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE to THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY? It's the only one of the trilogy I've seen in recent years and really enjoyed. Like FISTFUL, I haven't seen DOLLARS since I was a kid.

Celebrity- Good Allen, not one of my top 5, but it contained the best performances I've ever seen in an Allen film.

"Good, Bad" is sort of as good as the masterful "For a Few More"...It just plays rather differently. It's far more sprawling and bleaker. But it contains 3 great actors giving great perfromances, a wonderful score and one of the best final 3rds in cinema. "For a Few More" is an easier watch and more enjoyable I think, but "Good, Bad" is a wonderful epic.

Good, well, here's hoping that FISTFUL and DOLLARS are eventually going to be given the same great DVD treatment that THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY received.

Hellraiser: Hellworld- My new favorite in the series. frank - this time you MUST be joking! This film is probably WORST in the series, dammit! Agree about Celebrity and Eyes Wide Shut, though. Quorth - that's because of what you said in the Crash thread, about the violence towards children and that you can't stand it; Hostage sports much more of it than Crash does, don't you think? At the very beginning, near the end. Just watched: It's Alive III: Island Of The Alive; surely the poorest in the series but still fun. And Mike Moriarty in another kick-ass role.
