What do you think of Double Impact, 42nd? For me it's one of the most terrible martial arts films ever made - Bolo or not. I saw it years ago...But i have no real recolection. All of Vanny Dammy's films that I have seen are pretty lame or very average except for "Bloodsport", "Sudden Death" (mostly down to a great turn by the underrated Powers Boothe, who chews more scenery here than even in "Extreme Prejudice") and parts of "Hard Target" "Fist of Fury" - Bruce Lee "The Pit and the Pendulum" - Stuart Gordon

Exorcist II: The Heretic- Highly underrated sequel.
Dead Calm- Excellent high-seas thriller.
Bananas- Classic Woody Allen.
Seven Doors of Dead- Fulci did it again.

Exorcist II: The Heretic- Highly underrated sequel. *shudder* What was Burton thinking?! I've been moving some old VHS films onto DVD, so today I have been watching the marvellous Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple in "Murder She Said" and "Murder at the Gallop". Lovely slices of Englishness, which has sadly died out.

THE GRUDGE So-so horror. A couple of "make you jump" scenes, but it all had a feeling of "been there - done that", ie: THE RING, to it. Sarah Michelle Gellar wasn't a very compelling lead either. She was just kind of there. Also, why remake a Japanese movie, cast a few American actors in it, and then set the remake in Japan?
SPOILERS!
Did Bill Pullman owe someone a favor or is he really this desperate for work? Why take such a "nothing" role? Or were we supposed to be shocked by his sudden demise? "Ooh look, it's Bill Pullman! Oops, he died immediately! Didn't see that one coming."

"Cross of Iron" - Good stuff from Sam Pekinpah with a great turn by Coburn and a brilliantly effective attention to realism and detail in the hardware, weapons and uniforms.
But i have two moans. One is the inconsistent style in the approach to violence. Some slow motion carnage is bullet-hole ridden and bloody, while other similar sequences are not only totally bloodless but don't even show bullet holes in clothes. The other is THAT end! ratherunsatisfying from a narrative point of view it has to be said. Luckily the in your face, real life photos of global conflict between the titles save the day somewhat.

I saw Transporter 2 this weekend in the theater. It's James Bond meets Jackie Chan and is completely ridiculous. NOT as good as the first film and pretty damn cheesy.
Good things?
That lead dude (Jason Statham) is incredibly sexy!

Romeo Must Die 2/4 stars
Felt like watching a Jet Li flick. This one just happened to be filmed in my backyard & with all the american blockkbusters that are shot in Vancouver, (Fantastic Four) each one I've seen have been captured on film quite well sinse most of the time its raining. Romeo Must Die is the first film Jet Li has made in north america (if you don't count Lethal Weapon 4) & started a NA tour of films which most imo. were not as good as Romeo Must Die. The film has a lot of character mixed with poor CGI & some would say, also a weak storyline. Well these 3 elements combined make a great martial arts flick. I'm reminded though of Aaliyah's passing everytime I see this film now.. so young & talented with a bright future ahead of her.

Code Unknown by one of my favourite directors - Michael Haneke (Funny Games). This film, however, is an ultimate riddle to me: I'm not sure what it was about and I'm not even sure if I liked it. Doesn't happen all that often to me.

Crash 2004 2/4 stars
Not a bad independent film. A story of characters with different ethnic backgrounds surrounded by conflicted assumptions & situations which was present throughout the entire flick was a bit over the top or unrealistic. The events which brought the characters near to each other were presented well, fictitiously in Crash. Character development was in limbo but all actors stepped up to the plate & gave it their all for each scene. Not the best independent Drama I've seen & definitely not the worst either. The dvd video transfer was disappointing. I expected a lot better from Lion's Gate Films, but to give 'em credit, maybe the budget just wasn't there. It was however for the audio which was excellent throughout.
