The Forty Year-Old Virgin- Yes, I finally saw it. Funny as hell. Felt like I was watching it for three hours.

Last night I saw (Le Diner du Cons) (1998) Each week, Pierre and his friends organize what is called as "un dîner de cons". Everyone brings the dumbest guy he could find as a guest. The game consists in making the idiots talk about there ideas and passions so that the hosts can have a good laugh. At the end they will choose the "idiot of the evening" Pierre thinks his champ -François Pignon- will steal the show. Unfortunately he gets a severe pain in his back due to an accident that day and can't go to the "meal of idiots". Even worse is the fact that the idiot tries to help him all the time, and naturally does everything wrong and aggravates every situation. That's a short summary. But the best role plays a fiscal inspector. The master in his field ;D He sniffs fraud instantly. Gags with him are great ;D My recommendation

I went to a dinner one night with this well-dressed guy and everybody was laughing at my ideas as well as the ideas of other guys like me and they gave me this little crown made of cardboard at the end of the evening... Said "#A Ideot" on the crown... I wonder if... Was I.... Nahh....

Last night we watched WITNESS. Great performance by Harrison Ford and it made me wonder, what the hell ever happened to Kelly McGillis? She had a string of hits with this, TOP GUN and THE ACCUSED, but kind of disappeared.

I know she was promising a come back to the screen but I'm waiting... waiting... nothing so far. She was great in Witness.

Funny... I saw Witness yesterday in my film appreciation class. And yes, it was excellent.
Today I saw the Maltese Falcon. Humphrey Bogart kicks ass!

Heineken, Bart, Smitty, I never seen Witness before. Does that mean I should watch out for the Movie Police?

Not really... it's not that high profile of a movie.

Not really... it's not that high profile of a movie. Sorry, but I disagree. It was a big box office hit, over $65 MILLION domestic. That was pretty big for this kind of movie back in '85. It was Harrison Ford's first big hit that wasn't associated with Lucas or Spielberg. It was nominated for 8 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor (Ford's only nomination so far.) It won for Editing & Screenplay. It was also nominated for 6 Golden Globes as well as many other awards. It was an all around critical and box office hit, it's twenty years old and you haven't seen it, I'd say it fits the criteria. It may not be as "flashy" as some of Ford's other movies, but just to be safe, if the Movie Police come knockin', don't answer.

Well, I didn't mean it wasn't GOOD enough to be a movie police entry (by all means it is), but I wouldn't be surprised if there are people (of my generation, anyway) who don't know what the movie is.
I heard about it for the first time less than a year ago.

Smitty, I totally cut some slack to people of your age or younger, for not having seen certain movies. I expect someone who's half my age to only have seen about half as many movies. Give or take. But I'm pretty sure Term is a bit older than you. With as many movies as he buys and sees, he probably should've seen it by now. I guess that's the kind of thing that provoked me to start the "Heineken's Essentials" thread. Mostly younger people who never rent movies that were made before they were born. BTW, kudos on the film appreciation class.

"Lets all build a barn! lets all build a barn! We are cute and we are cuddly...lets all build a barn"! "Extreme Prejudice" - Ultra violent funstuffs, let down only by needless (although the topless scene was nice) female character involvement! And what a great cast!

BTW, kudos on the film appreciation class. I guess I was too busy watching The Terminator (84) over & over again. I know I've missed some 80's flicks because of this. I seen & passed up the previous Paramount release of Witness because a) didn't see it, b) thought the cover of Harrison made it look like one low budget film & c) didn't know it was released in the mid-80's. Damn, now I want to see this. With all the awards & money it made + a fan of Harrison Ford. I guess sci/fi "was in" that year for me as I remember seeing Back to the Future in theaters. Well, you know what I'm gonna do.. "blind buy" the recently released special edition soon. ;D Thanks for your feedback guys. Hopefully by the end of the year, I'll give you mine.
