Comparing Shrek 2's numbers to Sith's, it doesn't look like Star Wars Ep III will pass Ep I, probably not even come close.
Here is a comparison;
Shrek 2 was making an average of $2.8 mill on weekdays & $7.5 mill on weekends during its 5th week of release. Star Wars is making an average of $1.4 mill on weekdays & $5 mill on weekends during its 5th week of release.
In perspective, it took 42 days before Shrek 2 declined to Star Wars figures.
Have I just totaly lost ya yet. ;D

Yeah, I think War of the Worlds will be the nail in the coffin for Star Wars'zzz numbers at the box office. It had a good run & now I think at best, Star Wars might take #9 The Passion of the Christ (370 mill) I'm sure by now Lucas & group are compiling a bunch of bonus materials for the dvd release, which is supposed to be released this fall. Crossing fingers.

Yup. Long gone are the days of a movie celebrating a full, one year anniversary playing in theaters. What movie did that? Why, the original STAR WARS back in '77-'78, of course. ;D

Yep, the only film I can think of that has come close to Star Wars is The Sixth Sense, for longest theatrical run.
August 8th 1999 - May 14th 2000

So, Term, what's it's box office up to now? I just saw it again yesterday for the fifth time. Okay, it was at the discount theater 'cause my wife, having seen it only once, wanted to see it again. And you know me, not much arm twisting involved. ;D

Just under $380MIL for the sixth movie in a franchise. Not too shabby.

Just under $380MIL for the sixth movie in a franchise. Not too shabby. Have you factored in for inflation since the original trilogy's release? Tickets cost 3 times as much now. Episode VI's probably only made about a third or fourth as much as Episode IV.

Do you mean EPISODE VI RETURN OF THE JEDI, or did you actually mean EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH? Confusing, ain't it? And no, not factoring in for inflation here. If that were the case, GONE WITH THE WIND would still be the number one movie.
