After half a year of hype, Troy doesn't disappoint. This was definitely one of the best movies of the year; not to mention the first Oscar-worthy movie of the year. My full review can be found on my website: fracturedmovies.tripod.comI was actually getting mad because some stupid people were sitting next to me, laughing the entire way through, at stuff that wasn't even funny. And at the end, one of them had the nerve to shout "overrated"... you know, even though you can tell they were trying their overall best NOT to enjoy the film. If I weren't in my work uniform, I would have hurt them. They ruined my experience. But it was an excellent movie nonetheless. Has anyone else seen the movie? Just want to know everyone's thoughts.

Can't wait to see it. This is one of my most anticipated films of the year. Armies, swords, ships, costumes, bloodshed, sex, almost three hour running time. I loves me a good epic!! ;D

I think I'll watch this one just to see Brad Pitt's butt... No, but seriously, I can't wait to see this one either. I don't know if I can sit in a movie theatre for 3 hrs. though..sheesh...

Personally, I'm not too excited about Troy. I do believe Smitty that it's a very good film and I do think I am going to like it when I finally see it, but it doesn't have this sort of magnetic power for me that, for instance, Van Helsing had.

Oscars for Troy? A brave sentiment, considering the extreme stylised setting, and the mediocrity of the stars Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom's acting chops (though it has a great supporting cast). I'm ready to be surprised, tho' it'll only get sound editing and costume awards, as it's at the wrong end of Oscar's year. Trust me.
Can't believe they took out the gods, tho'. That's ridiculous!
Nice to Sean Bean's being taken seriously as an actor, now. Great in LOTR, Equilibrium and now Troy? I'll be hankering to know, come release day. I could be blown away by the sheer genius of it.
I doubt I will, though. The shot of the Normandy Style landings look interesting, however. The guy's a great director.

Brad Pitt is a good actor, IMHO... I mean, it's sad that he's used for his looks rather than his talent, but he has talent though.
Orlando Bloom IS mediocre. Until he plays a different character, I'm not convinced of his talent.

Saw it today and thought it was fantastic! The entire cast was great, including Brad Pitt, who is a good actor, but never seems to get the props he deserves, and the battle scenes were some of the best I've ever seen. The CGI FX were seamless. As far as Oscars go, for acting, maybe Peter O' Toole will get a nod for Best Supporting Actor, but that'll probably be it. Orlando Bloom is kind of a lightweight actor though. He's been lucky to be cast in the movies that he has been so far. Maybe he'll get better with age. The film could get lots of other Oscar nominations though. I mean, what the hell, GLADIATOR, which is in a similar vein, won Best Picture and a bunch of other Oscars, and I thought TROY was better than that. Even though it's almost three hours long I was never bored. Best movie I've seen so far this year. 10/10

I think Brad's gonna have to get fat and be an old Italian with a lisp before people realize he is a good actor.

He's gonna have to gain a lot of weight, use an accent & wear heavy makeup to make him unrecognizable, in order to be taken seriously. Kind of too bad. People forget that he's already been nominated for an Oscar once (12 MONKEYS). He obviously worked really hard for this role. He's in great shape, his fighting & swordplay skills looked great. He was very intense in the role. I bought him as a great warrior. Eric Bana was very good too. You know what else was cool about this movie? No Wire-Fu! ;D

Yeah, you know. Actors fighting on wires that make them seem like they're floating in air. It was done effectively in THE MATRIX and CROUCHING TIGER, but then became really silly and a cliche as it started showing up in every other movie with fight scenes, ie: CHARLIE'S ANGELS, DAREDEVIL, etc. I'm sick of that.

Aaaaaaahhhh grasshoppa...I see. Yeah, it does get kinda old when it shows up in every other movie. Someone's gonna have to come up w/ a new gimmick. ;D

But aren't accents Brad's nemesis so far? He sure was great in 12 Monkeys, Snatch and Fight Club but his roles in Seven Years In Tibet or The Devil's Own kind of disappointed me.

But he had one of the "intentionally" funniest and thickest accents I've ever heard in SNATCH and you liked that one, so are accents his nemesis or aren't they? And his accent in DEVIL'S OWN didn't bother me, but what do I know about an authentic Irish accent, other than what I've heard in movies? Didn't really care for the movie though.

Well, in Snatch it was the whole new language, really! ;D Plus, Brad's Snatch role was intentionally funny, so I don't think we can compare it to The Devil's Own or Seven Years In Tibet.
However, I think there IS a chance for Brad to beat his nemesis: just let him hire for his next movie the accent coach who helped Kate Beckinsale reach the top levels of nativity in Van Helsing, and the goddamn curse will bite the dust! ;D
