I've always been a firm believer that if a band sounds good, it doesn't matter what they''re style is. People always freak when they see my music collection, because it's organized beyond belief, but also because it's so genre scattered. I've always been a bit eclectic, and my collection proves that. Ahhh, but the questions then become: How organized? How much? And: Like what? I'm encroaching on only about 300 (somewhere between 250-300) CD's, under 30 Vinyl (with snazzy Aiwa Record Player)--90%+ of my collection is Metal ranging from Thrash, Death, Black, Industrial, NWOBHM, Speed, and Classic Heavy Metal (with a teensy bit of Power and Doom). One Johnny Cash disk, a couple classical CD's including the awesome "The Planets" from Gustav Holst. Army of Darkness soundtrack. And some Hard/Southern Rock (AC/DC-Jackyl--they're not a Hair Band!!!). All my stuff is organized by band--alphabetically--and each band is organized in ascending order by release. My wife and I bought 5 or 6 CD's at once one day a couple weeks ago at Cheapo that included: Rotting Christ Jewel Kataklysm Skinny Puppy Dying Fetus Cake Guess which 3 were mine!

Judas At The Opera is my favourite Superheroes track after the first listening - but that's mainly because of Kiske's vocals, I'm a huge fan of this guy. I know, that's also a good one. Too bad Helloween let him go. I like him better than Deris. Deris was allright, but Kiske did my favorite Helloween track, Halloween. (Natch, it's I'm Alive.) Glad to see someone else out there appreciates the classics. I hope he finally gives in and performs with them next year at Wacken. The invitation's there Mike, just follow up!

Jewel, Skinny Puppy, and Cake? No, but which one's from your "true three?" I've got Kata's new one, but I can't find the good one, Epic (Poetry of War). I heard a great track that my friend had, "Il Diablo in Me," but the rest of the disc eludes me. I want it! In reference to your other question, I have about 500 CD's, which are arranged by genre, then in alphebetical order, then in order of release. (IE, I have the Power metal seperate from Black, Death, Thrash, Speed, and Heavy metal CD's I own, plus some great Hard/Classic Rock (Need that daily dose of Lep and the DC!) then, for Edguy above Gamma Ray, then I go for Vain Gloria Opera below Hellfire Club, as Hellfire's more recent.) It's pretty time consuming, but it works for me, since I know where it goes because it's alphebetical, then I just have to look at the dates to find it's year of release.

Q, just like you said in your PM, I've got Bathory (sort of) on right now. It's The Crown's take on Burning Leather, a totally awesome track and a surprise hit on the CD. I've got to get more of Bathory's main Cd's. Any recommendations?

I'll be honest with yah: I love Bathory, but own no actual disks. Money is the problem. I have MP3's of most of the Bathory catalog. Nordland I and Nordland II are really good, so is Hammerheart (one of his first ventures out of Black/Thrash Metal and into inventing Folk/Viking Metal). I got all those MP3's from a guy I was formerly friends with that turned out to be quite the poseur and decided that sinking into a world of constant inebriation (drinky drinky tokey tokey) was more important than being friends with me. Dickweed. That guy had bajillions of MP3's--but didn't know shit about most of the music.
Anyway, that's good stuff. As soon as I had money again I started buying up CD's and DVD's like I'd been stricken with a madness--and there was a lot I wanted. Destroyer 666, Rotting Christ, COC, Kataklysm, Dying Fetus, Gorgoroth, Hypocrisy (the new one fucking rules), Kreator, Pain, Mayhem... Haven't gotten to Crematory, Panzerchrist, Vital Remains, OverKill, Gorerotted, Vesperian Sorrow (yup, one of my top recommended is an album I only have in MP3 format--gotta order it online!) or ye olde Bathory just yet... Plus, I got a bunch of stuff--good, great, interesting, ....jazz?? from Bart and I need time to get to know aaaallll that shit (which I got in a span of about 2-3 months) before I binge again! I'm aiming my next four purchases at Bathory, Crematory, Vesperian Sorrow and Panzerchrist.
I only download to sample, and fully endorse supporting the bands--if I had the money, I'd only buy new releases of the guys I really like. Lack of support is kinda what killed The Crown--release album, go out and tour, come home still broke. Tough life for underground acts.
Well damn, that's a long answer for a simple question...

I'll go out to look for them during my next run to the video store, but I'm also losing money paying for my satellite TV system, rent, food and all that other crap, plus my entertainment needs, so it could be a while before I actually get around to a record store for new purchases. I'll put Bathory at the top, though. I only download to sample, and fully endorse supporting the bands--if I had the money, I'd only buy new releases of the guys I really like. Yeah, but I needed something to kill this song, it lasted forever. Isa Enslaved Isa Good to know other people do that download to support thing. I do that too. I'll simply take one song to download as a marker, then if it catches on, I'll go out to get the album then delete the MP3 so I have more space to discover new talent.

Listening right now to Savage Circus' debut album; 'tis a pretty good new power metal band - Piet Sielck (Iron Savior) is one of the members.

Give some shocking examples of your eclectic choice. I mean not inside metal but outside it, maybe outside rock? No, it's just metal oriented, but I listen to almost every genre of metal, from Blasphemous Black Metal (among favorites include Mayhem, Marduk, Old Man's Child, Burzum and Dimmu Borgir, plus many more) to inspirational, uplifting Power Metal (Kamelot, Gamma Ray, Edguy, Stratovarius, Heavenly and Brainstorm, among others) plus all kinds of Thrash groups (Slayer, obviously, Testament, Overkill, Exodus, Dew-Scented, The Haunted, Arch Enemy, among many others) to the most guttural of Death Metal groups (Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Death, Vader, Bloodbath, Deranged, Amon Amarth, Nile and Decapitated, plus many others) as well as owning Cd's from groups in dozens of other metal related genres: Industrial (Rammstein, Prong) traditional (Judas Priest, King Diamond) NWoBH (Early Judas Priest, Raven) and metalcore (All That Remains, Shadows Fall (I call them metalcore, not thrash, though they could be both)). But my comment was referring to the fact that all my friends are into one distinct genre, while I prefer anything that sounds good, so it's a bit shocking to them when they see a Heavenly CD next to a Houwitzer CD. That's what I meant.

We just found out that Thyrfing is actually going to be coming to America in a couple months--so I'm a Viking Metal mood:
Right now:
Draconis Infernvs By: Arthemesia From: Devs-Iratvs
(Also, Ensiferum, Borknagar, and Thyrfing of course!)
Hey Bart, you may take an interest in Viking Metal--it's basically a combination of Black/Power/Folk Metal styles. Check out Ensiferum: Iron and Wintersun's self-titled debut.... wait... Did I send you some Wintersun?
