Scream Bloody Murder-No review will be coming, as it's more of a comedy than a horror film, but as a spoof of the slasher genre at that time (it came out two or three months after Scary Movie, just on DVD) it's not bad. Definitely takes a while to realize it's a parody, which is it's main fault here, but it's still good enough for slasher fans to give a chance. Sharks in Venice-Highly enjoyable Sci-Fi Channel killer shark film, so you know what to expect with this one. www.imdb.com/title/tt1087474/usercomments-16Raging Sharks-Almost the exact same as the one above, only not as good but with the same atmosphere. www.imdb.com/title/tt0426556/usercomments-19The Gay Bed and Breakfast of Terror-Drop the religious undertones and this will be a classic in the years to come, it's that good. www.imdb.com/title/tt0815165/usercomments-5The Ferryman-Had tons of potential to be good, with a fine premise and all, but too confusing and too dull to rise above below-average. www.imdb.com/title/tt0808265/usercomments-24Wilderness-Spectacular killer-in-the-woods entry with a lot more going on for it than expected and generating a lot of good points. www.imdb.com/title/tt0465670/usercomments-48Sleepy Hollow-A forgotten gem, an old-school Gothic horror tale mixed with slasher goodness to produce a nearly-flawless film. www.imdb.com/title/tt0162661/usercomments-983

The Virgin Spring (1960) Its actually the first Ingmar Bergman film I have seen, but it won't be the last. I recommend THE SEVENTH SEAL. Thanks, added to the Netflix queue.... Windcroft (2007) An effective low budget psychological thriller about a troubled man and his wife who head to the farm he grew up on after the recent death of his estranged father. The pace of the film is slow, deliberate and its a very moody film about murder, madness and family secrets. Its unfortunately hurt by some rather flat acting, but otherwise I was pleasantly surprised. One that is not for everyone though. 6.5/10 The Invisible (2007) A high school student Nick is brutally beaten by Annie and her gang after she is led to believe he is the one that has turned her into the police after a robbery. Believing him to be dead, they panic and hide the body. When Nick wakes up in a state of limbo, not dead, but dying, he can't be seen, heard, and he has no effect on the world around him. But he soon realizes that the only person that might be able to bring him back is the person who almost took his life, Annie. I actually wanted to like this, because at times its...almost touching.... but the writing seemed really weak, and I just didn't believe these characters at all. 4.5/10 Shivers (1975) Cronenberg is probably my favorite director, and this is him through and through. I often find body horror terrifying (which probably explains why he is my favorite director ). Its a sick, twisted creepy little film though not one of my favorites by him. I hear there is a remake in the works, wonder how they will approach THAT.... ;D 6.5/10 I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) Hahahahahaha....what's REALLY funny is that I made a joke about the future titles of these films after the second one came out....and this was one of the titles... Somehow I was actually surprised by the direction they took with this one. No idea why. Also not really sure why I watched this. I have Showtime now, so apparently I just feel I have to get my money's worth. I remember the young adult book fondly (by Lois Duncan, I loved her books when I was a kid) and its funny to look back and remember how different and subtle the book was compared to the films. They must have just LOVED the title and the notes the characters received. 3/10 They (2002) Julie and her friend Billy used to have night terrors as children. Billy has never quite recovered, believing that he was marked by demons that have come back for him. Desperate and unstable, he commits suicide in front of Julie. Traumatized, she once again is haunted by nightmares, and begins to believe that she is also marked by the creatures that drove Billy to shoot himself. Actually, its not all that bad, but unfortunately, the ending is weak and the characters are a bit annoying at times. 5.5/10 Incubus (2006) Stranded after a car accident, medical student Jay, her brother Josh and several of their friends seek shelter in a seemingly abandoned building (not completely sure why they thought that, but hey whatever). When they enter though, they find the dead bodies of two scientists that had apparently gone nuts and brutally killed each other. They find out that the building was being used to conduct experiments on a serial killer that is now in a coma. But he can apparently possess those who fall asleep. I hated these characters. UGH. Just.....ugh...its all just....really awful. 2/10

Lost Treasure of the Grand Canyon-It was a poster on another forum who mentinoned this was more of an adventure film than a horror movie, which certainly explains this one. There's hardly any action at all, the creature barely does anything (and isn't even responsible for half of the kills: that's right, the creature in a creature feature doesn't kill anything) the gore here is extremely tame, and the plot moves sooo sssllllllllooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyy it becomes quite boring before they even get to meet the creature or the Indians who worship it. Really only worthwhile if you can get around the dupe of this having nothing to do with horror but is a low-budget adventure film rip-off. 3/10

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009, Gavin Hood)
On the plus side, it's better than X-Men 3. Hugh Jackman delivers an amazing performance that even makes the poorly-written dialogue sound plausible. The opening scenes were fantastic.
On the minus side, there wasn't enough of the old "team" that Striker assembled (I really could have used a lot more of that), the writing was bad - the dialogue was crap, huge plot holes, the effects were simply... crap. They couldn't even get the claws to look real, which was especially discouraging.
Overall, the film's not terrible, but it's not particularly good either. I didn't expect much from it going in, so I can't say I was disappointed at all. I expected to be mildly entertained, and I was, in fact, mildly entertained. The trailers do not disguise this film's quality at all. If you can look past the novelty of this being a Wolverine movie, it should be plainly obvious what you're walking into. 7/10
To reiterate, by my criteria that means it's not highly recommended but I liked it well enough.

I'm not a fan of "shaky-cam" either, but I wasn't really bothered by any that was here. Not to the point where it took away any enjoyment of the film itself anyway. The effects, acting, direction, suspense, and just overall production were superior to just about anything made directly for the Sci-Fi Channel. Which this wasn't. Your little description here doesn't really mesh with your linked review. In the actual review, you like it way more than you seem to here. Your "way too many problems" turn out to be shaky cam and some kind of beef with the creature's heat vision.

BLOW-UP (1966) A London fashion photographer (You know, like the Mod type spoofed by Mike Myers in the Austin Powers movies?) takes some photos of a couple in the park. When he starts developing the film, he realizes he may have accidentally photographed a murder in progress. Sounds like a fascinating set-up for a film, and I've long heard of this film as a "must see classic", but the problem for me is that it took forever to get to the really interesting part of the story. We have to suffer through about an hour of this guy mistreating women and just being a hedonistic jerk before we get to the meat of the plot, and even after the "discovery" the story still meanders. The scene where he keeps zooming in on the film as he's developing it because he keeps noticing things is great suspenseful film-making, and later copped by Ridley Scott for a scene in BLADERUNNER, and the ending is a bit of a cool mindfuck, but everything in between? Kind of an insufferable bore, I'm sorry to say. 5/10 X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009, Gavin Hood) ..the writing was bad - the dialogue was crap, huge plot holes, the effects were simply... crap. 7/10 To reiterate, by my criteria that means it's not highly recommended but I liked it well enough. What?? X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE (2009) A prequel to the X-MEN trilogy that tells the origin and backstory of fan-favorite, Logan aka Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and why he has no memory of who he was or where he came from in those first three films. First thing we learn, if you've never read the comics, is that Logan is far older than he looks. We first meet him, and his brother Victor Creed, as children in the 1850's. They go on the run after a killing, and in a cool opening montage, we see them as adults fighting in every major war, from the Civil War to Vietnam. They are recruited by shady military man, William Stryker, to join a special unit made up of mutants. Logan has a falling out with the group and leaves. The story picks up six years later, in the 70's, where Logan is living a peaceful life with his girlfriend and working as a lumberjack in Canada, when Stryker, Creed, and the rest of the group appear back in his life to disrupt everything. After a tragedy, Logan agrees to participate in the Weapon X Project, and to undergo a procedure that will reinforce his entire skeleton, including his claws, with an indestructible metal known as adamantium. Many fights follow, Wolverine vs Creed, Wolverine vs Weapon XI aka Deadpool, Wolverine and Creed vs Deadpool, etc. The first half of the film is really great, but the second half, at about the point Logan undergoes the adamantium procedure, the movie seems a bit rushed. A longer running time might have helped. Several interesting fan-favorite characters are reduced to cameos and short appearances, including Deadpool, Remy LeBeau/Gambit and The Blob, and we are even introduced to the young Scott Summers/Cyclops, later to be a member of the X-Men. Obviously we're setting up later X-MEN ORIGINS movies here. Jackman is as good here as he's always been as Logan. Creed appeared in the first X-MEN film in his later more animalistic guise as Sabretooth played by wrestler, Tyler Mane. Here he's played by the less imposing, but more talented Liev Schreiber. The older Stryker first appeared in X2 played by Brian Cox. The special effects aren't always crap, most times they are satisfying, but there are definitely a few scenes where they could've been improved. Especially a waterfall jump and Logan admiring his obvious CGI claws in a bathroom scene. CGI claws when he's just looking at them? I didn't even understand the point there. The effect looked almost unfinished. The script was about as good as your typical summer popcorn film. It wasn't anything special, but it wasn't cringe-inducing either. Overall, an action-packed satisfying continuation of the X-Men series, if a little rushed, and really, not better than the first two, but no better or worse than the third X-Men movie. At least one or two more Wolverine movies are needed to help fill in that gap between this movie, which ends in 1979, and the first X-Men flick released in 2000. He definitely needs to go to Japan next. Comic book fans know what I mean. Oh, and stay through the end of the credits for two bonus scenes. 7/10

Well, I forgot to mention that flaws aside, I found Wolverine to be entertaining enough.
Yeah, I figure it's strange that I would bash the writing and effects and still give it a relatively high score. I thought the fight scenes were very good, and the story kept me interested (yes, even with the plotholes). It's nothing to write home about, but it's decent enough.
Yeah, when I was talking about the effects, I was definitely referring to the scene where he's checking out the claws in the bathroom. WAY too obvious and cartoony. I also thought the final location's CGI was glaringly bad.
That being said, I DID find it to be better than X-Men 3, but Fox needs to stop rushing these movies. I would like to see more X-Men Origins films, but hopefully Fox learns to take a deep breath, let the screenwriters put some effort into it, let the digital effects artists work, and then we'll have something.

The Uninvited (2009)
This is a remake, or reimagining, of the Korean film A Tale of Two Sisters. Anna suffers a mental breakdown after the death of her mother and has to be institutionalized for awhile. She returns home to her sister and best friend, Alex, and their father.....and wicked stepmother, Rachel, the woman that was her sick mother's nurse. Soon, she is also confronted by the spirit of her dead mother, who claims that she was murdered by Rachel. I actually liked this movie, which was a bit of surprise because I love the original film, its one of my favorite Asian films. But its definitely different enough to be interesting, the acting is mostly good (all three of the female leads were good), and its has a few creepy moments. Overall, its done well, though I just didn't buy the actions of a couple of key characters. But then again, they had to make the story work. Its not nearly as good as A Tale of Two Sisters and its not going to blow your mind or anything (it is a bit predictable), but its stands on its own well enough.
7/10
Blackout (2007)
A woman and two very different men, find themselves trapped in an elevator in a deserted building. The woman is desperate to get to the bedside of her dying grandmother, and the other two have places they also need to be. What at first seems merely inconvenient soon turns into a nightmare, as help doesn't arrive and one reveals himself to be a serial killer. Good premise, the acting is passable, the atmosphere is actually quite good at times and the killer is certainly vile enough.....but it drags too much of the time and its never really as interesting, or frightening, as it could have been.
5.5/10
Dance of the Dead (2008)
A group of teenagers have to battle flesh eating zombies on the night of their prom. Part romantic teen comedy, part bloody zombie romp....the film is definitely derivative, but its a hell of a lot of fun.
7/10
