I like part 2, it's actually pretty good if you go in with it as simply a vampire film without thinking it's a sequel. That's what will really lower that one.
Personally, though, the last entry in the series, Vampires: The Turning, is the best of the series. Violent, gory, action-packed, plenty of kung-fu action and a fantastic way of playing around with the vampire lore that still holds onto the traditional manners while doing something new make it really entertaining.

Thanks for the info, guys. I didn't even know there was a second sequel to Vampires. Also, glad to hear about Diego Luna, since he's the only reason Vampires: los muertos got some promotion here (he's quite the star in Mexico, obviously).

Blade's appearance on the list marks the only franchise to appear more than once on the list--other films either appeared alone or were one-off films without sequels!

The first Blade *is* good, but I kinda liked the sequel better. Still this first entry is one of the best comic book adaptations I've seen.

The ever-popular 90's Bram Stoker's Dracula finally rises from the dead to join the list! This film more closely follows Stoker's original vision of Dracula--including having the blood-sucker venturing out in the daylight, counter to popular Hollywood mythology keeping all vampires in the dark! Also it marks the appearance of none other than Keanu Reeves himself to the list! "Whoa."

Very good movie, one of the best horror movies of the 90's [not that there was that much competition ]. This, like "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" was a kind of movie that normally wouldn't work (in both cases, a classical hystory played with modern sensibilities and music video editing) but somehow did. One thing about this particular movie, through: in my mind it's forever associated with "Dracula: dead and loving it"... But they are both fine movies, each in their own way...

Did anyone see the sequel, through (I think it was called Vampires: los muertos)? Would you recommend it? I've seen the second one once, just to see if it was any good and b/c Jon Bon Jovi was in it. I thought it was alright... I'm like you, there's just something about the first one that made me like it alot, aside from the fact that James Woods is in it. Good blend of action, humor and blood, and maybe b/c I read the book that it was based on. I dunno...

I appreciate the technical values of Bram Stoker's Dracula, but I don't like it too much as a horror movie - there's no suspense and no real scares in it. Oh, and Keanu Reeves? Come on now!
Didn't get my vote, this one.

Count Dooku makes his appearance (or is it Darth Tyranus?) with Horror of Dracula (aka Dracula) which puts Hammer cinema ahead of the most high-production Hollywood offering!

This is a fine, fine movie! Perhaps not quite as great as Hammer's earlier The Curse of Frankenstein, but still one of the studio's best horror pieces. Shame that most sequels weren't half as attractive as the original.

Tarantino makes an appearance appealing to Mexican vampire lovers with his South-Western tinged, Mexican-lore inspired gruesome vampire romp! Unlike Blade, no other part of this trilogy managed to find it's way to the list. So Bruce Campbell gets no love here!

From dusk till dawn... heh, I remember this one. Kinda goofy (it didn't get my vote), but certainly fun.
Speaking of mexican-american vampire hybrids, I finally saw Vampires: los muertos... I liked it a lot. Certainly it's not as good as the first movie (as slayrrr pointed out, it works better if you forget that it's supposed to be a sequel), it hits the right notes: plenty of atmosphere (the sun-drenched towns and the cathedrals), a very enthusiastic cast and a plot that moves along at rollercoaster pace yet never loses clarity... good times, all in all.

From dusk till dawn... heh, I remember this one. Kinda goofy (it didn't get my vote), but certainly fun. Oh, it definitely got my vote. Half the movie is a well done crime thriller and the second half is a campy, but gore-filled, horror movie. A cast that's far superior to what the genre usually gets, (Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Juliette Lewis, etc.) a writer and director who are actually fans of the genre, getting their horror groove on, and, in a far too small, but highly memorable role, Salma Hayek as Santanico Pandemonium, the hottest vampire stripper with the most insane stage-name to ever hit the screen. Me likey!
