I heard some no-good things about Subspecies ('average made for TV-quality film', 'poor f/x' and so on), and that's why I was never interested in it too much. Also, it's another of those movies I'd have to buy - nowhere to be found on our rental shelves.
I heard it's got a good soundtrack, though; does it, really?

Ok, here goes...
1. Bram Stoker's Dracula 2. The Lost Boys 3. Interview with the Vampire 4. Twins of Evil (Can't find anywhere now!!!) 5. Fright Night 6. Salem's Lot 7. From Dusk til Dawn
That's all I can think of right now. I'm a costume whore and BS's Dracula had some of the most fantastic costumes I've ever seen! Oh, yeah, the acting was all right too.

OH MY! "BS Dracula" stunk the world out! Te acting was 'ok'? This has some of the most revolting acting ever seen...either a mixture of TOTAL HAM (Hopkins, Richard E Grant) or WOOD (Step right up Keanu the Plank for pissing all over the English accent and the wonderful Harker diary entries of Stoker's).
And even Brits like Sadie Frost are terrible...(though she always is).
And costumes? well I don't know, but hair???? That THING on Oldman's head was hysterical! The wolf/sex scene on the tomb summed up the crass attitude, and the less said about the CGI hell of the 'bendy Bride's' scene the better. Only the final chase was in anyway watchable...And on top of all that it's (the odd bit aside) a crap adaption as well...adding all this long lost love crap that has nothing to do with Bram Stoker. POO! POO, I say!!

Well, you know, I wouldn't call the movies great or anything, but I like them. Copies of the movies are hard to find, I guess Full Moon Entertainment has a thing about not releasing them for sale. You can order them for like $50 or something from the company & you get a "free" membership to the Full Moon fan club. I found a used copy of the first one for sale at a video rental store, so that's the only one I have.

Wow, 42nd, didn't like BS Dracula much, huh? I still like it, but I will agree with you on the hair piece though. Unfortunately, it looked like a big a$$, but he was supposed to be an eccentric character, right? I haven't read the book so I can't comment on the adaptation. I just assumed the love story was in the book as well. I haven't seen most of the movies on this thread so maybe I'm a little uneducated on the whole vampire genre. Still, I felt compelled to share my faves with everyone. Shame on me. Let me know what you think of Van Helsing, I think it looks cheesy, but I'm looking forward to it anyway.

There's no relationship between Mina and Dracula at all. And as for romance??? Well if forcing her face down to lick the blood from his chest is love...I guess there was some in the book! ;D
And..all is forgiven for having the wonderful "Interview" and "Twins of Evil" in there!
That damn CGI Werewolf has put me off "Van Helsing"..that was one bad bit of computer graphics! Why oh why can't people MAKE things nowadays!

See that's the thing about opinions. Everybody's got one! 42nd Street, you kind of chided Sybillness for enjoying "STOKER'S DRACULA", but gave her kudos for enjoying "INTERVIEW W/ THE VAMPIRE", but that movie has just as many detractors. Believe me, there are plenty of people out there who would gladly rip into us for enjoying either of those movies. I had both on my list as well and I don't think either is perfect, but IMHO, most vampire flicks are cheesey anyway. There are grades of cheese, but cheese nonetheless. Yes, Keanu deserves the "Costner as Robin Hood Award" for worst British accent in "STOKER'S DRACULA", but for me, the best parts in "INTERVIEW" are the scenes with Cruise as Lestat in a total "chewing the scenery", but really good performance. Frankly, when his character, sort of, dies, the movie isn't as interesting anymore, IMO. Both movies had great costumes though. I even liked Gary Oldman's "ass hair" ;D, just for being such a different interpretation of Dracula and unlike anything we'd seen before. Can most of us at least agree that DRACULA 2000 should be locked away in a vault and never screened for anyone again? Now, that was crap of the highest order. Again, IMHO.

Lock up that vault tight & throw away the key!! ;D Geez, there seems to be some dissension in the ranks about BS Dracula & Interview.... I personally like both movies, even though BS Dracula really didn't follow the book much except for the basics, & I agree w/ Sybellness, the costumes were great. I have to say that I like Interview more though. Maybe b/c I love the books, I dunno. And, like everyone else, when it was announced that Tom Cruise was going to play Lestat I was like, how could they do that?? But I was mighty impressed w/ his portrayal & agree w/ 42nd that the movie kinda dragged when he "died". I wanna see Van Helsing, but I'm kinda afraid I'll be disappointed.

Glad you agree anyway. ;D Yeah, VAN HELSING I kind of have my doubts about as well. It'll probably be okay in a "check your brain at the door and enjoy your popcorn" kinda way. It almost looks like a "superhero/monster" movie if that makes any sense. Kind of how UNDERWORLD first looked to me.

Oops, sorry, my bad! Anyhoo...yeah it should probably be branded one of those "fun summer movies". You know you can never have enough of those. ;D

I'm still hoping to be entertained by Van Helsing, and can't wait for it. Don't mind tiny CGI flaws if the story's thrilling enough and the actors deliver... but, you know - I liked The Mummy, so...

Yeah, the CGI looks kinda lame, but oh well, I can just sit & look at Hugh Jackman!!

I wonder... Did you see Kate And Leopold, livingdeadgirl? If the answer's 'yes': did you manage to enjoy it just looking at Hugh? For me it would be difficult to have fun with Kate And Leopold even if Meg Ryan was mercifully replaced by Salma Hayek... What I wanna say is, uh, I guess a really B.A.D. movie can't be saved by an actor. Hope it doesn't happen to Van Helsing, though. Oh, and you must know I think Hugh Jackman is a very cool actor - very! But he ain't getting many cool roles, eh?

You're right. Not other than Wolverine anyway. He seems to be doing okay though. I was just in New York and he's currently playing the late entertainer Peter Allen on Broadway in the show "The Boy From Oz". He's singing and dancing and getting rave reviews for it. We opted to see Mel Brooks' "The Producers" instead. Hilarious and one of the best live shows I've ever seen. Highly recommended. Er, we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread about Vampires. Sorry.
