That's a tough one, RIP! I haven't seen some vintage zombie movies (like Manchester Morgue or Cemetary Man or even - that's a shocker! - Fulci's Zombi), so my Top Ten won't be so very perfect. But since you asked...
1. The Serpent And The Rainbow
2. 28 Days Later
3. The Beyond
4. Return Of The Living Dead
5. Dead Alive/ Braindead
6. Re-animator
7. Dawn Of The Dead
8. Night Of The Living Dead (the remake)
9. Nightlife
10. Flesheater
For some The Serpent and 28 Days Later ain't even proper zombie movies and they're at the top of my list... hmmm... well... for me they are.

2. Night of the Living Dead.
3. 28 Days Later...
Okay, so I don't watch zombie movies all that much. Maybe I'll come up with more.

1. Dawn Of The Dead. 2. Day Of The Dead. 3. Return Of The Living Dead. 4. Return Of The Living Dead: Part 2. 5. Undead. 6. Brain Dead. 7. Night Of The Living Dead (remake). 8. Zombie Flesh Eaters (Zombi 2). 9. Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 (Zombi 3). 10. Zombie Flesh Eaters 3 (Zombi 4...aka...After Death). 11. Nightmare City. 12. Shaun Of The Dead. 13. Dead & Breakfast. 14. Graveyard Disturbance (it has a scene or two with zombies). 15. House Of The Dead (it is a laugh, there are worse zombie movies than this, at least in my eyes there are). Too name but a few, I also like some of the not so well known zombie movies. I have not seen every zombie movie ever made, but I would love to ;D. I noticed some other titles on the lists above mine, I dont reconise them. Thanx for the titles, I will see if I can hunt down a copy of these movies. Meat MarketThe Horror Rises From The TombToo name but a few of those I dont reconise. Cheers guys!

Some brave choices there, graveworm - I mean, Zombi 3 and 4? I don't think I ever saw either of them on any The Best list. I was also bored to (almost) death by Graveyard Disturbance. And since we talk good zombie movies: have you seen Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (aka Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue)? What did you think?

And since we talk good zombie movies: have you seen Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (aka Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue)? What did you think? I agree that Graveyard Disturbance wasn't anything great, but I like good and bad horror movies (to a certain extent anyway). I liked Lamberto Bava's Demons 1 & 2, so this is why I bought Graveyard on dvd, it only cost £3 which is dirt cheap for a dvd. Some of the list I gave above is my real favourites, others like Zombi 3 and 4, they are just movies I enjoy, nothing more. Like I said, I am a big zombie fan, and I like more or less every zombie movie (some more so than others). I have not seen the living dead at manchester morgue, not yet anyway. Maybe one day I will, it is actual zombies in it?. Reason I ask, is because some horror's of the early 80's have zombie in the title but dont have zombies in them, which is stupid if you ask me. I have never heard anyone say anything bad about living dead at manchester morgue. I will see it one day though

I like zombie movies, especially some of the really tacky, gory,Italian ones of the early 80s,even if alot of them are not really very good.
1. Dawn of the Dead {original} 2. Braindead 3. Day of the Dead 4. Night of the Living Dead {original} 5. Zombie 6. Dawn of the Dead {remake} 7. 28 Days Later 8. Tombs of the Blind Dead {quite obscure Spanish film,the hooded zombies in this are really creepy} 9. City of the Living Dead 10. Plague of the Zombies {Hammer}
Favourite bad zombie movies-Burial Ground {AKA Zombie 3} Zombie Creeping Flesh Demons Nightmare City
Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue definately has zombies in it,it's rather slow {the zombies don't appear until half way through} but quite atmospheric, worth seeing.

...some horror's of the early 80's have zombie in the title but dont have zombies in them, which is stupid if you ask me... Agree with this. But the zombies in Manchester Morgue are first quality, rest assured - rotting and ruthless. The script is flawed, but I still think that it's one of the best zombie flicks around. Do see it!

Favourite bad zombie movies-Burial Ground {AKA Zombie 3} I dont know if you know this, but in the UK Zombi 3 is not Burial Ground, Burial Ground is Burial Ground. As far as I know Zombi 3 in the UK is Zombie Flesh Eaters 2. The sequel (of sorts) to Fulci's original which involves military personel and some civvies trapped in a small town that has been quaranteened. Fulci co-directed it with another guy, but I heard Fulci left the project early on. This is Zombi 3 (in the UK). Just thought I would let you guys know this, so as there is no mix up with Burial Ground (not seen it yet) and Zombi 3...aka...Zombie Flesh Eaters 2 . I will check out living dead at manchester morgue, and tombs of the blind dead. I heard it was supposed to have some pretty good atmopshere in sections of it. If I can't find them on dvd, I shall try my luck online, if you know what I mean ;D

If I can't find them on dvd, I shall try my luck online, if you know what I mean ;D I know what you mean cause that's where *I* got it, too. In UK, however, you can get a nice DVD edition of it, so I think I'd go with this in your case.

Goddammit! I can't believe I missed a good Zombie thread!
1. Day of the Dead 2. Night of the Living Dead 1968 3. Dawn of the Dead 1978 4. Dawn of the Dead 2003 5. Shaun of the Dead 6. 28 Days Later 7. Zombie 8. Dead-Alive (Braindead) 9. Return of the Living Dead 10. Night of the Living Dead 1990 11. Return of the Living Dead II
Others I've seen but don't really recommend: Zombie 3 (Review in Review Hell), Children of the Living Dead (Tom Savini--WHY??), House of the Dead, Resident Evil.
And, *ahem* Dead & Buried isn't exactly a zombie movie. It's about a mortician giving eternal life to people after they die. The people don't really fit the definition of zombies.

...through I have watched a few movies with this kind of monster, I still haven't quite grown a "taste" for zombie movies. I don't think it's a fault of this subgenre, I just haven't watched that many.
Those that may not really fit with the usual description of zombies, but which I did like:
- Dead and buried. - 28 days later. - The beyond. - Prince of darkness. - The serpent and the rainbow.
[Wether or not they are "zombie" movies as such --do I care? They were scary, at any rate]
And of actual zombies, let's see:
- Romero's Living Dead trilogy --but of course. - The two remakes of this trilogy (Night and Dawn) were actually pretty good, but IMHO both were inferior to the originals. - Shatter dead - Grapes of the dead. - Tombs of the blind dead series --That's were my avatar comes from! The first is a great spanish monster feature... the script had several holes in it (like some characters themselves becoming zombies for no reason at all), but it was overall pretty creepy and atmospheric, IMHO. - White zombie.
There are still plenty I've got to see.

Here's my picks:
1. Zombie (78)- This one has a lot of things that I love about zombie films: Nudity, lots of gore and blood, an atmospheric setting, and at least one memorable scene to being up in discussions as bait to lure new watchers over to the film. (The eye scene: need I say more)
2. Tomb of the Blind Dead (71)- I really love this movie, and it's great to see others like this one as well. It has the atmospheric setting, gore and, as it's the first one in the series, the zombies look absolutely creepy. It's a personal favorite, and I can't wait for the box set to come out.
3. Dawn of the Dead (78)- I prefer this one over the remake, but both are really great films. The classic one is by far the more violent and gory, and with a myriad of scenes to pick as memorable, you can't go wrong.
4. Night of the Living Dead (68)- The sequel just barely beats out the original, but that still doesn't take anything away from this one. Most of what the populace knows about zombies comes from this one, and that B&W just makes it that much more scarier.
5. Shaun of the Dead (2004)- One of the only zombie films that made me laugh. Surprisingly, I really don't get much of British humor, but this one put more than one smile on my face. The ending, where it gets really bloody, is a great highlight, and I actually cared for the characters.
6. Burial Ground (80)- As you can see from my list, I have a strong preference for the Italian flicks, and this one is desperately underrated. It has the great atmospheric setting, the Italian precedent for gore, and my all-time favorite zombie design. I love the look of the creatures in this film, and just look at that cover!
7. Return of the Living Dead 2 (88)- I know, this one is just a great little guilty pleasure. The great part is that there were a few times that it made me laugh, or at least chuckle. The gore is good enough to keep you entertained, and that Michael Jackson riff at the end was the perfect moment to recommend.
8. Dawn of the Dead (2004)- This wasn't that bad of a film, and it provided a great new aspect of the film. It had a few good jumps, the Special Edition's gore is satisfactory, and for once, the fast zombies made the movie work.
9. Horror Rises from the Tomb (73)- The great Paul Naschy's nearly-forgotten classic. It was a nice change of pace after seeing him play Waldemar for so long. Great atmosphere and the legendary Paul Naschy in one zombie movie?
10. City of the Living Dead (80)- Another of the great Italian zombie films. True, they do change the concept of zombies here, but the gore is great, highlights come fast and furious, and Fulci actually kept it pretty linear, at least for me. I had no problem following it.
Honorable mentions: Return of the Living Dead (85) Night of the Living Dead (90) Zombie Lake (80) Day of the Dead (85) Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (74?)
