From IMDB:
'The Simpsons: The Movie' Taking Shape After promising a theatrical feature version of The Simpsons for years, the TV show's creator, Matt Groening, has indicated that plans for the movie are at last approaching fruition. In an interview with Britain's Guardian newspaper, Groening remarked, "We're trying to tell a story that we wouldn't do on television and take advantage of a longer process and a more ambitious process for animation." However, he added, the movie "will either kill the TV show or completely reinvigorate it."

From IMDB: The long anticipated movie version of The Simpsons has been put off until at least 2008 because those connected with the TV show don't want work on the movie to affect it, exec producer Al Jean has told Entertainment Weekly. "The biggest thing is you don't want to do a movie that's not reflective of the quality of the show, and you don't want the quality of the show to slip because you're doing the movie. So we're taking a little time," Jean said.A little time?? Sheesh! By the time this gets released I'll probably be in my mid forties and won't even care about a SIMPSONS movie! And judging by the massive response to the initial post in this thread, nobody else does either, huh? Eh, who am I kidding? Of course I'd still go in my mid forties. ;D

Well, I think it works well enough as a TV-series, so I don't really wish for it to be expanded into The Movie; same with Family Guy, for instance. 2008, huh? What are they thinking?

I'm not really disappointed there is not going to be a movie. I think it would have been difficult to pull off, and while I was never set against it, I didn't think it was really necessary. I doubt it will ever get made at this point.

Whether they make it or not, or if it's any good or just total garbage (which would be hard to do with these guys), I'd still go see it.

It would kill the series faster than the sub-par writers they've had these last 5 seasons.

This has nothing to do with the movie but I read today that McFarlane is coming out with a new line of Simpson's figures sometime this year.

That's odd. There already was a line of Simpsons figures that ceased production about a year and a half ago. Playmates, I think, made them. I used to have a bunch of them, but sold them to pay bills, and also, it was becoming a headache trying to maintain my collection. Here's one of the rarest, which I had (he went for over a 100 bucks when I sold him): cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=19242&item=5961808025&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW(May have to copy and paste into new window) At least 7 series' of figures were released.

That Radioactive Homer was awesome! I remember when he came out I wanted him so bad but I was way too poor to even send away for him at the time.

I actually had two or three of the Boxing Homer figures. But, they were comparitively easy to get compared to Radioactive Homer--I think only a few people were even aware of Toyfare Magazine at the time--let alone the exclusive figures they offered. Ahhh... I used to be such a nerd.

Here's the latest on the movie according to IMDB:
'Simpsons' Movie Confirmed Homer Simpson and his hugely popular family are set to hit the big screen in a new full-length movie based on the cult cartoon series. The show's principal voice actors have all signed on for the project and creator Matt Groening is delighted with the script for the film. The Simpsons' spokeswoman Antonia Kaughman says, "Now we're going to get the best of both worlds, evidently... They finally worked out a movie team, a team of the writers, because we could never hire outside writers - they had to be Simpsons writers, and most of them were working on the show. They finally put this team together that has time on the side, and they've been working on the script. So the movie won't be at the end of the series - they'll be working simultaneously."
I'm just glad they're not gonna go the live action route like Scooby-Doo, Fat Albert or Garfield.

I'm just glad they're not gonna go the live action route like Scooby-Doo, Fat Albert or Garfield. Exactly how would they go about doing that? They'd have to use tons of make-up to make sure everyone is yellow. Even then, they'd get actors who look ar sound NOTHING like they do in the cartoon... Wait... I have to stop giving these people ideas. Yes, I, too am glad it's animated.

If they can turn Nick Staahl into Yellow Bastard in SIN CITY, I imagine turning some actors into The Simpsons wouldn't be that big a problem.

As much as I love THE SIMPSONS, I think they waited too long to get this project rolling. The show, in my opinion, is not as popular as it used to be. My 13 year old still watches it with us, but he quit asking for the merchandise long ago, and when the kiddies quit askin' for the toys... But, I'll still go see it anyway!
