I've seen a preview/behind-the-scenes of this the last couple of times I've been to the theatre. It looks really funny w/ lots of good celebrity voices, namely John Goodman. I didn't catch when it was gonna air though.

Is this the show that was created by, or is based on Seigfried & Roy, or something like that? I haven't seen any previews so I don't any other details, but I seem to recall something along those lines.

Yeah, it's supposed to be about the lions that perform in Sigfried & Roy's show. It was done by Jeffrey Katzenberg. John Goodman does the voice of the father & Orlando Jones does the voice of a squirrel or weasel or something. And there are celebrity guest voices by Danny DeVito, Eddie Murphy(as Donkey) & some others I can't remember right now.

TV Reviews: 'Father of the Pride' Television critics are mauling tonight's (Tuesday) premiere episode of NBC's Father of the Pride, the computer-animated series dreamed up by DreamWorks principal Jeffrey Katzenberg and shepherded by NBC chief Jeff Zucker. The series, about a pride of lions and their working relationship with the Siegfried and Roy magician team in Las Vegas, has evoked some of the following critical descriptions: Phil Rosenthal of the Chicago Sun-Times: "ill-advised;" Matthew Gilbert of the Boston Globe: "Euw;" Robert P. Laurence of the San Diego Union: "too blue for kids, too dumb for grown-ups;" Mike Duffy in the Detroit Free Press: "a puerile, raunchily misbegotten exercise in corporate entertainment stupidity." On the other hand, the show is receiving a handful of positive notices, as well. Bill Goodykoontz in the Arizona Republic remarks that the show "isn't the train wreck you may have heard about" and comments that "there are some real laughs in the first couple of episodes." And Mike McDaniel in the Houston Chronicle calls it "one of the few original delights for fall, an amusing, handsomely drawn, computer-animated tale."I still have not seen a single promo for this, but I may have to watch just out of curiosity.

The only promo I saw for it was at the theatre. What they showed was pretty funny, but then again, that doesn't mean a lot in the scheme of things. I'll have to check it out though.

From IMDB: The critically battered Father of the Pride made its debut on NBC Tuesday night and captured the highest ratings of the night. On an end-of-summer night, with the other networks airing mostly reruns (and an hour of the Republican National Convention), the animated sitcom, which was incessantly promoted during NBC's Olympics telecasts, pulled a 7.0 rating and an 11 share in the 9:00-9:30 p.m. timeslot. It also was the top-rated show of the night among adults 18-49. Critics! Feh! I saw it and thought it was actually pretty funny. Not at all the train wreck I was expecting. It reminded me a little, in design & content, of the animated short from a few years ago, "CREATURE COMFORTS", if any of you are familiar with that. Anyway, I'd watch it again.

Critics? You mean the same critics who thought Open Water was GOOD?
P.S. - I'm going to be using this argument a lot. Critics are not to be trusted.

From IMDB: Unable to whip up ratings for its computer-animated Father of the Pride, an adult-oriented cartoon about the performing tigers in Siegfried & Roy's Las Vegas act, NBC has yanked the show for the November sweeps. Although Pride is expected to return in December, it appeared doubtful that the network would continue the $2-million-per-episode DreamWorks-produced show once it has aired the initial 13 episodes.

Late monday night, I actually caught an episode of this series (this one episode where the daughter recues an ultra left-wing lobster and guest stars Barbara Steisand).
...I thought it was quite funny and with some nicely done animation... I do think they overdid the gay humor a bit (was it only in this episode or is it a common theme of the series?). The characters are all interesing, and not quite as stereotypical as you'd expect (starting with the father himself).
Critics don't know shit, period. [But for the record I DID like Open Water... Ah, it's a purely subjective opinion]
My sole problem, through, is that all throughout the episode I couldn't shake off the feeling that I had already seen it all...
