The aliens are of the stupidest sort--they have ping-pong balls cut in half with dots painted on them for eyes.
That's why I need to see this one too! In The Killer Shrews the title "monsters" are poorly disguised dogs - I love stuff like this!
I was practically raised on this crap--and because of it, I developed a taste for it that, as far as I know, is found in only one other person--my younger brother.
So much of those old horror/SF films are just putridly bad, but we discovered some good ones, which, by all means, I recommend:
Them! (1954--Leonard Nimoy in brief bit part, giant ants terrorize)
Tarantula (1956--Clint Eastwood fighter pilot, giant spider terrorizes)
I Bury the Living (60's--a "Midnite Movies" DVD release that's actually written and acted quite well, cemetary worker has power over life and death)
Night of the Living Dead (1968, of course I recommend this, we all know it by now)
The Monolith Monsters (50's, as I recall, this was actually a decent film, giant space rocks grow like weeds and destroy landscape)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (50's, one of Hollywood's SF, anti-nuclear classics--this is where "Klatuu Baratta Niktoo" came from)
Crap for laughs:
The Giant Claw (50's Giant super-bird from space flies faster than the speed of sound and yet, can't out-fly slowest plane in US Air Force--laughable writing and acting match special effects.)
Killers From Space (a cheap DVD release actually had this retitled as "Aliens From Space" of all things)
Reptilicus (60's--Denmark I think--some of the worst effects imaginable--a cut-out paper image is swallowed by the puppety creature)
Plan 9 From Outer Space (Ed Wood's "greatest" film, aliens use our dead as weapons against us)
Just for Nostalgia:
The Man From Planet X (Another "Midnite Movies" DVD--it's pretty bad, but fun never-the-less and an interesting look at how little Hollywood understood science back then)
The Angry Red Planet (another laughter-inducing Nostalgia-fest, complete with "wacky-colored" scenes on Mars and some really awful aliens--Ratbatspidercrab, anyone?)
Day of the Triffids (The original from the 60's is actually quite good and in color.)
Gorgo (60's--Giant monster movie from the UK is actually decent, better than most all Godzilla films.)
I
t Came From Outer Space (50's decent as I recall, alien crash-lands on Earth movie)
The Deadly Mantis (50's giant bug film #305, giant praying mantis, decent effects for the time)
The Black Scorpion (50's stop-motion effects on giant scorpions only reason to watch film)
The Monster That Challenged The World (50's giant caterpillar kills people, not bad FX, but more like Monster that Challenged Utah--"Midnite Movies" DVD)
The Last Man On Earth (60's Vincent Price, not bad, but remake "The Omega Man" with Heston is better)
Only watch the Mystery Science Theater 3000 versions of:
The Horror of Spider IslandThe Atomic Brain (Ed Wood film)
The Amazing Colossial ManThis Island Earth (MST3K the Movie)
and countless others.
If you can find 'em, some of these films are released by Midnite Movies as I stated. Most all appear in crappy box sets by Platinum Disk Corporation--and these are terrible transfers with often muddy visuals and muffled sound that only worsen some already bad films. The Midnite Movies cost a little more, but you get a cleaned-up picture and sharp sound with 'em.
