Like this film enormously, it's easily De Palma's craziest film. One of the things I think is great about De Palma [although many find it annoying] is how he seems to be so in love with film, Phantom Of The Paradise shows this wonderfully, speeded up film, slow motion, split screen, almost every scene in this film is odd or original in some way.
There's a great deal of satire too -the piss take of the music business is spot on. Gerrit Graham is hysterical, but somtimes the emotion of the original story [of course The Phantom Of The Opera] still comes through- I've always found the scene of Winslow watching Swan and Jessica Harper's character getting it on through that window very sad.
Add the gorgeous Harper and you have a great movie. A shame that if flopped and even today very few people seem to have seen it. The DVD disappointing too.
