I would have to say that this is my favorite cult movie. If for nothing else but Tim Curry alone. No, I love everything about this movie, the characters, the cheesiness, the music, the actors....everything. Even joined the fan club for awhile. But, I've never gotten to go to a special screening of it in the theatres. Maybe before I die I'll get the chance. ;D

Hopefully, I bought this movie years ago and it has sat lying on my shelf unwatched and unopened. Maybe I gotta give this one a watch.

Ah, what better way to kick off our new "Cult Films" section than with a thread about the most popular "cult" film of all time?? See the irony there? Is it really a cult film anymore if almost everyone has seen it? It's kind of like when "alternative" music became super popular in the 90's. It was supposed to be an alternative to Top 40 radio, but it was the most popular music on radio. A conundrum, indeed. But seriously, I like this movie a lot. Saw it many times at the midnight movies in the 80's along with all my beer drinking slacker buddies and had a great time. But if you've only seen the movie at home on DVD then you're missing about 50% of the experience. As good as the performances and the soundtrack are, (Tim Curry rocks!), the best thing about it, is seeing it with an experienced audience who knows when to yell out all the appropriate things. I even saw the live version on stage when it rolled through town many years ago and it was just as good as the movie. And again, the audience participated and made it even more entertaining. For anyone who's never seen it, if you ever get the opportunity to see it in a theater with an audience, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's a completely different experience than watching it at home by yourself. Great fun.

The closest I've gotten is just getting together w/ friends & watching it around Halloween time. But we did sing along. ;D Every once in awhile they show it at the theatre here, but whenever they did I was always working & couldn't go. And you have a good point about the "cult" status...I'll have to ponder that. You should def. watch it cyber. But it's one of those movies that you either love it or you hate it, no in between. You're right Heineken, Tim does rock! Love his acting & I could listen to him sing all day!

As someone said see it at home is not the way to see it. It works best as a midnight movie...BUT if the audience isn't into it--forget it. I saw it a few years ago in Manhattan NY at midnight. The cinema was sold out but there were obvious problems. Frank N Furter was played by a woman (sort of defeats the purpose) and, aside from me and another guy, NO ONE was yelling lines out. Basically it was me and him throughout the entire movie. It wasn't fun. But with the right audience this movie is great! And Tim Curry is just incredible!

Frank N Furter was played by a woman (sort of defeats the purpose) That's almost sacrilige... And Tim Curry is just incredible! Yes, he's right up there next to Mr. Campbell in godliness. I assume you've probably seen "Shock Treatment" since you're a RHPS fan? What did you think of it?

Yep--I've seen "Shock Treatment" many times. It's not as good as RHPS. For one thing Curry and Barry Bostwick are gone and the story was sort of...confused. But Jessica Harper was an improvement (especially in singing) over Susan Sarandon and the songs were (of course) great! If only it made more sense. RHPS didn't make much sense either but Curry was so over the top (and enjoyable) constantly you sort of didn't notice. And you're right--Bruce Campbell is hot too

It's been awhile since I've seen it & I agree it's not as good as RHPS but it was enjoyable.

I honestly never cared for this film--it just did nothing for me. Although, Tim Curry is creepy as hell. I'll give it that.
I'm just not a fan of musicals. Except for Cannibal: The Musical. That movie is just awesome.

It is a bit of an acquired taste....but it's worth it just for Curry...

For me, Stephen King's "It" and "Clue" are Curry's best roles. Great films, even if "It" was a TV mini-series.

Dr. Frank N. Furter will always be the role Curry is most identified with. As Pennywise, he was one of the best things about IT. Never saw CLUE.
