To kick this off, here's the teaser trailer (warning, broadband is the way to go on this one): ClickersUnfortunately, it's being directed by Michael Bay. I predicted that this movie would suck some mean cock, and now I fear I may be right.

I disagree, Quorthon. It's too early to pass judgment, yet. And I liked the teaser. It did exactly what it was supposed to: teased. Here's hoping.

Hollywood may have been able to do Spider-Man and X-Men right, but then, Spider-Man is directed by Sam Raimi, who is an unashamed mega-fan.
No one in Hollywood is a fan of Transformers. Giant robots? That's way too nerdy for the land of the ultra-cool. I predict: A butchered story, too much CG, and poorly written TF characters.
We can already tell from the teaser that the story has been largely altered, with the Transformers showing up in modern times, rather than crash-landing a few million years back and being in hiatus until a volcano "awakens" them. I did like, however, that the sound effects seemed to the original blaster sounds. I hope, beyond all hope, that I'm wrong--and that there is no Transformer written down to be a comic relief character.
Welcome to the board hulksmashnow.

Thanks for the welcome. I don't really think there aren't any fans of Transformers in Hollywood. In fact, Tom Hanks is a huge fan and is a rabid collector of TF toys from way back. Yes, it appears that the story has been changed, but so was the stories for Spider-Man, Batman Begins, and many other really good adaptations of previously published material. If Bay and Co. can keep the spirit of The Transformers alive in their film, then hopefully, it will be good.

For the time being, as excited as I want to be, I'm going to take a reserved attitude towards the movie and not get my hopes up.
I had my hopes up for Alien vs Predator leading up to it's release, then it was one of the biggest disapointments in film history. The PG-13 rating actually led me away from ever seeing it in the theater or paying to see it later.

Quorthon,
I'm with you. We'll just have to wait and see. I actually did hear today that the footage in the teaser trailer, while shot by Michael Bay, will not be in the movie at all. So, it looks like the Mars stuff won't be a part of the plot.
As for AVP...I liked it all right, but it should've been an R-rated film. I wonder what they'll try to do with the sequel.

Anything will be better than that Transformers: the animated movie I watched..... You know I"m just kidding around w/you Quorthon. If anything, the film will have some amazing special effects which is what I'm looking forward to. I'm not really into Transformers but I haven't seen a movie with great robot effects.

You know, I have never, not once, seen an episode of The Transformers series, the animated movie, or anything. I'm only aware of the show because of the toy commercials back then and because it's such a staple of 80's pop culture.
When the show was originally on tv, I was older and had moved away from Saturday morning cartoons and was on to some of life's "other pursuits".
A buddy of mine owns the first season box set on DVD, so maybe I'll borrow that from him so I can aquaint myself with the characters, storyline, etc. After a proper trailer is released, I'll decide then if I'm interested in seeing this live action movie.

Transformers has always been a close third behind comics and Star Wars to me, but it wasn't until I started getting on the 'Net that I was able to sort of recapture those memories again. I've seen new Star Wars films, comic book-based movies start up again, and now a live-action Transformers film. It's great times for children of the '80s in my opinion.

I loved the Transformers series as a kid, but my parents were too cheap to buy us the toys. Later, in college, I caught Beast Wars, which still dominates the TF universe with the best overall writing, acting, and continuity--and when it tied in with the original series (Generation 1), it just got better. So that's when my nerddom kicked into high gear and I started collecting the toys.
I still have, maybe, 200 or more.
Heineken, be warned if you watch those original cartoons: The series didn't really get good until the second season (then the third meandered into weirdness). There's a lot of iffy writing and some occasional bloopers. Also, some glaring continuity issues for us nerdiest of geeks--like, for instance, the Autobots aren't supposed to be able to fly.

There was some great voice acting, though, Quorthon. Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, and some that are no longer with us, Chris Latta, "Scatman" Crothers, and Roger C. Caramel, to name a few. These guys were the reasons why I still look back on The Transformers with such fond memories.

Point taken. Honestly, I might be wrong, but I don't expect I'll care too much for it. I never watched it as a kid so it doesn't have that "nostalgia" element going for it that people who grew up with it have. Even some of the cartoons that I did watch as a little kid, now seem incredibly poor to me. At most, I hope that I'll enjoy it enough to be interested in seeing the live-action movie and to catch some of the references to the cartoon that the live version will undoubtedly have.

Those aren't bad.
Have you heard that Megatron might not even transform into a gun? What the fuck is up with that? Someone needs to punch Michael Bay in his optic sensors.

Quorthon,
Yeah, more than likely Megatron'll be a tank or a fighter jet. I think he should've been at least a futuristic cannon like Galvatron. Aint It Cool News had a pic of Optimus Prime in his truck mode (a red tractor trailer), but was forced to take it down by Paramount. I didn't even get a look at it, but heard it looked cool.
