OK folks,I'm sure we've all seen these,and although also horror they are certainly sci fi. the Alien films vary wildly in quality but most agree the first two are classics,and the third one has it's fans too. The fourth one is a mess but has some interesting ideas. I doubt anyone will vote for AvP,but I listed it anyway.
I went with Aliens,a great horror,sci fi and also combat movie,and showcases Ripley at her best. "Get away from her,you bitch!"

Aliens - James Cameron knows how to make a sequel!

A nice poll. I like it. My vote went for the original Alien but the sequel was very good which is so rare with sequels it closely follows or is No 1 together with the original but I couldnt vote in this way , then goes the No 4 sequel made by the Delicatessen director (my fave too) with a really good crew but Winona Ryder, No 3 is the last. AVP in my opinion is a disgrace to the Alien.

I went for the original as well. Sure, I love the James Cameron version of just blowing them all to hell, but seriously, the original chest-bursting scene was just so much more intense than any action sequence. And the fact that it was like Jaws in space, where we barley saw the alien till the end, made that much more terrifying.
I do like the James Cameron version, though. Ripley battling the Queen was timeless.

The original ALIEN. It's a classic that still holds up today. ALIENS is excellent as well, but I just couldn't pick it over the original. I love both though. Tough poll. 3 & 4 aren't perfect, but I'll take them anytime over AVP.

I went with Aliens. I love that movie--especially the extended version with 17 extra minutes.

I went with Aliens. I love that movie--especially the extended version with 17 extra minutes. I love the scenes with Newt's parents finding the derelict from the original movie, the stuff about Ripley's daughter and the two sentry guns they set up in the hallway, but I probably could've done without Bill Paxton's extended ravings about the weapons they're carrying when they're flying to the planet. That went on a little longer than needed and it's obvious why it was originally cut.

The best & most classic line in Aliens was from Bill;
Why don't you put herrr inn charge??
I still can't sit through that scene without cracking up. ;D

I chose ALIEN. I agree that it's held up pretty well. I liked the second one too, but I guess I chose the original because it was first. Scared the crap out of me when I was 10, that's for sure! We were on vacation and staying with relatives and I was watching TV by myself and just happened to catch ALIEN on HBO. Once upon a time, HBO used to show movies practically while they were still in theaters!

Luckily, "Frailty" made me like him. I still fucking hate Paul Reiser, though. Selfish fucking asshole!! GGrrr!! Ha! Look how much influence "Aliens" held on me all these years! It taught me to forever like or hate certain actors! Burn in hell, Reiser!!!!

The film would have been dull without a character like Paxton. It needed some comedy. The look on his face when the ship crashed to rescue them, was/is priceless.

I'm a huge fan of his,have been since Near Dark, but I agree he was a bit too whiny for my taste in the movie. That role & his role in Twister are my least favorite of his.

Oh, even though I thought that scene with hm in the extended cut went on a little long, I thought Paxton was hilarious in ALIENS. My friends and I quoted him for years after that movie. "Game over, man! We're in some pretty shit now!" ;D

I wasn't overly impressed with Paxton in Near Dark--although, I didn't care for that film at all anyway. Looking back, he was a far superior actor in it over Lance Henrickson and that damn little kid--now he was a shitty little actor. Henrickson's worst role pre-Alien Vs. Predator.
