So many of them out there in the universe!
I never understood why people hate John Carpenter's Escape From Los Angeles as for me it was equally enjoyable as the first movie, Kurt was looking even more macho, there was enough humour in it AND Steve Buscemi as a surprise gift. What not to like?
But since one man's treasure is another man's trash - I'm waiting for more examples of surprisingly loved movies and/or criticism of my own sad choice.

Let's face it, honestly, aren't they "all" pretty bad?? And this is coming from a big Sci-Fi fan. "STAR WARS", "ALIEN", "THE TERMINATOR", "ROBOCOP", "THE MATRIX", etc. All good and all cheesey at the same time. But hey, I guess I like cheese. "ESCAPE FROM L.A." is really cheesey, but entertaining. And I guess people only noticed the cheese and missed some of the social satire in there.

Hahahah - oh yeah, they all are to some degree. After all - they're about creatures popping out of chests or men combined with robots for the safety of the society or about Keanu Reeves playing a saviour...
The burning question is: why didn't people notice cheese in Escape From New York and only did in ...Los Angeles? OR maybe: why did they manage to get the satire of New York and not of Los Angeles?

"Keanu Reeves playing a saviour" "Whoa!" Now, who'd be silly enough to believe that? Oh wait, nevermind! I think maybe Carpenter pushed the "cheese" factor a little too much in "L.A". It was just easier to pick up on it. Which maybe made the movie seem cornier, lamer, whatever, to most people. "N.Y." was darker in tone, therefore making it appear to be a more "serious" movie. But having watched it again recently on the Special Ed. DVD, the "cheese" factor was definitely pretty high in the original too.

Yes, I always thought it was. And all this reminds me that I should re-watch New York on DVD - last time I saw it I was in the secondary school! How does the special edition look like? Something deleted? A Carpenter commentary?

The transfer is very nice for a low budget 80's movie. It includes the infamous deleted "opening scene" where we see how Snake ended up in the hands of the authorities. I haven't listened to the commentary on the DVD yet, but it's the same one which was on the old laserdisc version. Which means it's great! Carpenter & Russell record some of the best audio commentaries: informative & entertaining. If you're a fan of the movie, I highly recommend this disc.

Yeah, alright - sounds like fun so I guess I MUST get it (even though I never LOVED this movie, to be honest). Obviously though - this version is far from available in Poland yet.
By the way - I didn't listen to a single Carpenter/Russell comentary... not even the one on The Thing. But I even liked Carpenter Russell-less on Ghosts Of Mars so they both paired should be really uber-cool.

I liked Cherry 200 with Melanie Griffith and Deathrace 200 with David Carridine. I imagine I'll be watching those by myself when I finally pick up the DVD's!

Deathrace is a perfect guilty pleasure movie. But Cherry... Hmm, well, we can't agree about everything, can we?

Yeah, yeah, I'm the bad "B" movie queen.
I'll even admit to owning a copy of Krush Groove! I even saw that one at the show when it came out. But, I'm really cute, so I get away with it!

I have to confess that I liked the Cherry 2000 too. But I don't remember too much about it beside the fact that I saw it on TV and it was really late when the Sun was going to rise above the horizon

BAD Sci-Fi movies? Definitely "Prince of Space".

Many consider Armageddon a bad Sci-fi flick for some reason. Yeah, it'll never happen. But it's still one of my favorite movies of all time. So there.
