My brother got me The Godfather Returns for Christmas, so I'll start reading it shortly & give my opinions. At least if it sucks I didn't waste any money on it.

I'll probably start it sometime this week. Hopefully Winegardner stayed true to the established characters & created some good characters of his own. It's supposed to fill in the years that weren't covered in the original book or in the movies, so we'll see. The whole story of Fredo's betrayel of the family is supposed to be explained too, so it'll be interesting to see what he does with that. Anyway, like I said, I'll give my thoughts once I get into the book.

Ok, I just started reading Godfather Returns & I've already encountered a....weird development about one of the characters. Pheonix, you said you were awating my comments, but this tid bit is maybe somewhat of a spoiler if you're planning on reading the book, but if you wanna hear it, just let me know.

Getting myself back in the habit of reading. Good thing, this! And livingdeadgirl: I wouldn't mind reading this, uh, strange development, either...

Well, I've set aside Godfather Returns for the moment (just not in the mood for it right now) & now I'm reading The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer:My Life at Rose Red. Stephen King did a movie based on it, which I still haven't seen. So far it's pretty interesting.

If I remember correctly, the diary itself was actually written by King, but it was sold as a "real" book (kinda like they did with movies like "The blair witch". The movie (tv miniseries, actually) was... well, I just couldn't get into it, but I can see that it could interest to some people... Do let us know how the book was, will you? I'm curious about it. For my part, I'm reading "Lord of the rings", by J. R. R. Tolkien. Impressive, and there's tons more story than in the movies (even in the extended versions).

I read that. I thought it was OK. But the web site associated with the book, and all the reviews at Amazon discussing whether the whole thing (book, miniseries, fake college web site) was real or not was a hoot - not to be believed. Check it out.
The miniseries was reallly limited, as all movies (especially those made for broadcast TV) are, and the book is better by comparison. But still not one of your classic horror tales I think.
I just finished Book 1 of the Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever series by Donaldson. It's one of only a few really widely read, widely praised fantasy-SF series that I haven't gotten to yet. After book 1, I'm still not sure what all the fuss is about. You got any idea?

I'm almost finished w/ it now. It's ok, but like DedHed said, not really a classic horror tale. Still, I don't think it was wasted time reading it...pretty interesting, and different from what I'd been reading lately, so it was a nice change of pace.
