Just finished reading (took me long enough, damn busy schedule) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and I thought it was excellent. Even knowing what happens at the end (freakin' internet), the build-up and the actual occurrence still packs quite a punch.
I'm gonna hold off on reading until the 17th, when I get my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in the mail

I'd like to know how you're getting it the 17th when it comes out the 21st, and the book publishers are very anal about keeping it in place until midnight.

Hmm... where did I see the 17th? Never mind, I suppose I meant the 21st. My bad.

I finished up the second Dresdon Files book, FOOL MOON. Very good story & writing. I had an older used copy of the book though so their were some typos. LOL. I'm awaiting the new HP book but I will be away on vacation for when I get it.

I found out where I got the 17th from...
At Amazon, they had a thing going where if you order by the 17th, you are guarenteed release-date delivery. Hence my crass mistake.
But I will be receiving it on the 21st, and will be reading it shortly.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows (J. K. Rowling) -- I think that this may just be my favorite Potter book. A.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Original plan was to finish reading one chapter and go back to sleep. I just couldn't put the damn thing down though! So I finished an approximately 800 page book in two and a half days. Maybe for all you bookworms that's slow, but for me that's a personal record. Anyhoo, that was the best book of the Potter series, and if you haven't yet read it, get started. This baby has gone out with a Hell of a bang.
What I love about the Harry Potter series is that it has pretty much bred a new generation of readers. I love the metaphors. I love the controversy it's causing (although the people who are getting so offended by it are really quite stupid). Years down the line, Harry Potter is gonna be remembered and celebrated.

Once I get it in the mail, I'm gonna start on Chuck Palahniuk's latest, Rant. Looks to be a good read.

Harold Bloom would disagree with all of us on the Potter issue. But who said Harold Bloom was the freakin' final word on Literature?!
Honestly, though, the only thing I found disappointing in the novel was the epilogue...I expected more outta that part...but perhaps in a couple years....
Anyway, I've recently read:
You Suck: a Love Story (Christopher Moore) -- a sequel to an earlier novel of his and while there are some funny moments it just doesn't hold up in jokes and tension as before. C+.
In Evil Hour (Gabriel Garcia Marquez) -- the novel that hints at his eventual genius more than any other, it's a very political tale with a great, Battle of Algiers-ish ending. B.
For some reason, summer's been kinda a dead time of reading for me. Bizarre.

He's considered one of the foremost literary critics in the United States...maybe even the world.... So I guess you could consider him the Roger Ebert of books. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Bloom

On that note, neither should Roger Ebert...
