So, it goes like this:
Loads of books have been adapted into movies and not every single one of them is good. In fact, lots of books get butchered in their big screen reprisals, so the question is: If you could remake a movie adaptation, because you're improving on the original that you hated, what would it be?
For me I'd go with Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, which is a class-A fantasy that is eeriely chilling. However, the Disney version released in the 80s is just. . .horrible and butchers the story completley, making it turn from a lust for youth story to just a carnie horror tale. All of Bradbury's books are filled with great images, but none of them were transferred to screen and the characters were less developed and, ugh, it just annoys me. I have to remake this movie into a better, no questions asked.
Any for the rest of you?

Oooohh. Oh. Initially, this was going to be tough, but then it occurred to me that it's actually blindingly easy to choose a book whose movie seriously needs a redeux. I thought about Jurassic Park and rattled a few Stephen King through my head, but then it came to me:
Watchers, by Dean Koontz. This is such a fantastic book--well written, excellent depth and characters. But the movie--buuaagghgh!--what a load of shit. The manly hero from the book was transformed into *gag* Corey Haim!!
Oh, just read my review of it in the Review Hell to find out how much I loathed this movie. The book was just awesome.

You didn't like Jurassic Park? Man, why?!

You didn't like Jurassic Park? Man, why?! Oh don't get me wrong, I loved the movie--was one of my favorites for years. The music, effects, and atmosphere Spielberg pulled off in that one are absolutely spectacular--and I think it's safe to say that no movie before or since feels quite the same way as Jurassic Park. It was so good it encouraged me to read the book (which I later bought), and holy hell--the book was 50 times better. The book was damn near an R-rated sci-fi horror film. I guess after reading the book, I was disappointed that so much was left out of the movie, and granted, there are time restraints, but still... Plus, Spielberg's nasty habit of "lots of plot holes" kind of put a damper on things. Of course, when I remembered Watchers, well, compared to that, Jurassic Park looks like a carbon copy of it's respective book. In hindsight, The Lost World was butchered a lot more from book to movie.

All adaptations of Stephen King books (except for Carrie, Misery, Shawshank, Dolores and Green Mile) should be remade. By Brian De Palma.
And hey: who wouldn't like to watch a real - with guts on the floor and all - adaptation of The Running Man?

Actually, Bart, I'd add The Shining to the list not needed to be remade. That movie scared the hell out of me. Damn Kubrick.

The Shining is by no means bad, but for me - a King fan who considers this book one of his very best - it was a disappointment nevertheless. Just like the version Garris made was.

The manly hero from the book was transformed into *gag* Corey Haim!! That is a great choice! I loved that book and could never even get all the way through the movie. Some Steven King movies are okay - I like 'THE STAND' and 'IT' in particular. Oh and 'PET SEMETARY.' Oh and 'CARRIE.' ;D I'm almost always disappointed with adaptations of books - what works the best though I think is Fantasy films in general. I would like to see a good 'ENDER'S GAME' (by Orson Scott Card) film.

Actually, I would like to see a true adaption of Running Man--that book was so damn depressing! I read it for a literature class in High School. I don't remembe what part I read to the class... I think the end.

Nothing really comes to mind right now....but I think Queen of the Damned could've been better. I liked the movie but so much of the facts & little things differed from the books. I guess I'm just being picky about it. The movie version of IWTV stuck more to the book than QOTD did.

;D I'd remake Saving Private Ryan, so that the enitire film was like the first 30-minutes. Also, I would remove any sense of sentimentality, since there is none in warfare. It's so-so as a war-film, because...well, my grandfather was there. There are no heroes in war, only survivors. Watch "Come and See" by Elem Klimov for a more accurate-portrayal of war. I would have people with no-jaws, no limbs whatsoever, crying, cowardice, sex in the foxholes (sorry, it happened), murder of fellow-soliders, treason, execution, rape, etc. . We have-yet to see an American film that really portrays war as it really is, or even remotely-close. And I LIKE Saving Private Ryan!

[glow=violet,2,300]Truth, you say. In Poland we experienced lot's all kind of wars and not as soldiers sent somewhere but as a nation composed of civilians and soldiers on our own territory. That's quite a different experience.[/glow] We have-yet to see an American film that really portrays war as it really is, or even remotely-close. And I LIKE Saving Private Ryan! [glow=red,2,300]What about Thin Red Line. It shows some of the features you've mentioned like cowardice.a[/glow]
