I was thinking about getting into reading some of the SW books, since my reading list has grown short. So anyone have any suggestions where to start? Aside from the Timothy Zahn books which I plan on reading first.

SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE by Steve Perry (No, not the lead singer of Journey!) is a pretty good book. It takes place between Episode V: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and Episode VI: RETURN OF THE JEDI and details what went on into the planning of the rescue of Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt and introduces us to new hero Dash Rendar (Solo Lite) and villain Prince Xizor, head of the underground crime organization, Black Sun. Where did Leia get that bounty hunter costume she wore to infiltrate Jabba's palace? How did Luke build his new lightsaber? All the answers lie within this book. The Timothy Zhan books, The Thrawn Trilogy, are definitely worth reading, good choice.

Thanks for that info! I'll def. look that one up. I've read nothing but good stuff about the Zahn books, plus my brother read them when they came out & said they were excellent, so I figured that would be a good place to start. Have you read the other two he wrote? I think they were called Hand of Thrawn or something to that effect. Farawawgalaxy.com has reviews of most of the SW EU books & two written by Barbara Hambly were highly recommended. There was also one, Darth Maul Journal, that was recommended. I guess it takes place during EP1, but written in first person from Maul's perspective, plus gives some background about the character. So I might check that one out too. So I should have plenty to keep me busy for awhile.

My brother drug out his SW books that he has so now I"m reading "Truce at Bakura". I figured I'd read that one first since it takes place the day after the events in ROTJ. I'm waiting for the first Timothy Zahn book in his trilogy (from Ebay) and also waiting for Rogue Planet from our Book Vault.

LDG, you should also check out "TALES FROM JABBA'S PALACE". It was only released in paperback and it's essentially a collection of short stories, each one focusing on a different character that appeared in the Jabba's palace scenes in RETURN OF THE JEDI. If I remember correctly, all the stories take place during the on-screen action of JEDI, so you get to find out what characters like Bib Fortuna, Jabba's right-hand man with the tentacles coming out of his head, is up to whenever he's not on-screen. It's pretty funny because a lot of the characters are plotting against Jabba.

Yes! I have that one, well my brother does. I'll probably read it after I'm finished with the one I'm reading now, while I'm waiting for the first book of the Thrawn Trilogy to get here. He also has the Jedi Academy trilogy, but he said to read those after the Zahn books. I'm trying to read in order so I won't be totally confused.

Just started on Heir to the Empire... probably won't take me too long to devour that one.

I picked up the Han Solo trilogy from Amazon.com, and am currently reading The Paradise Snare. So far, so good.

Let me know what you think of them. I may want to borrow them sometime in the future. And I have a question....I've been looking into the Jedi Apprentice books and they are VERY expensive. I looked on Ebay & they were going for, like up to $50 for eight of them & there was one w/ all 18 of them & it was going for about $70. I finally found the first one in the series for 60 cents so I bid on that. I was just looking on Amazon for them & #18 was listed for no less than $50! And these are paperbacks. So what's so special about them that they cost so much? Or am I just not looking in the right places?
