I really like Wes Anderson and can't wait to see The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. I mean, in Rushmore, how great is it to have Dennis the Menace (Mason Gamble played Dennis in the original film) welding a flame-thrower on screen? Or having a warning that there are loud noises and exlplosions and safety glasses and earplugs can be found under your seat? The Royal Tenebaums is a great film, too. I love the funeral, where Ben Stiller replaces his red jumpsuit with a black one. And then the calm delivery of the line, "Eli just crashed his car into the house." Bottle Rocket was okay, but Anderson blossomed with Rushmore, which I have to get on Criterion.
I think he has this great way of creating quirky characters who you care about and root for, even if they are pompus jerks (Royal Tenenbaum). His style is very French New-Wave (like The 400 Blows) and smooth. It's great. What do you think?

Let me put it like that: I didn't think much of Rushmore (in fact, it bored me to tears) and I was disappointed with The Royal Tenenbaums (though I do think it is a good movie), but I can't wait for The Life Aquatic - from what I saw and heard of it so far, the movie looks grrreat!

Pretty much agree with Bartwald on this one. Never saw BOTTLE ROCKET. After hearing so many great things about RUSHMORE, I rented it one day. Mind you, it had it's funny moments, but overall, I was left with a feeling of And then ROYAL TENNENBAUMS was released to even better reviews, opinions, etc. On a chance, I bought a used copy at Blockbuster Video. Great cast, interesting idea, and some funny moments, but again, I gave the DVD away. Now, we get LIFE AQUATIC, which, going by the trailers, looks hilarious. But I just can't get excited about it after the first two disappointments.

I do like his movies, but I definitely have to be in a certain mood to see them. I really liked 'Royal' but I have to say I've only been able to watch it once. I couldn't quote it or anything, but the look of the characters certainly stands out in my mind still. It is very unique. As was 'Rushmore.'
Being a Bill Murray fan, I will probably see 'Live Aquatic' and I'm actually looking forward to it.

Saw Life Aquatic. Great film. Very dry humor. I mean, there's a guy playing David Bowie songs in Portugese. That's always great. And the pirates. And a killer whale upstaging Steve Zissou during an interview. Great stuff.
But I have a biased opinion because I love Wes Anderson and his films.

Most hard-core fans of Wes Anderson probably liked this film - so I can see how you would like it Pulpmariachi.
The humor was TOO dry for me this time, and I felt like some of the lines fell flat. Plus, it was L-O-O-N-G. I did like the music though!
If you're on the fence about liking Anderson's films or not, you probably won't like this movie.
