I did think Devil was quite entertaining. But he only came up with the story for that. He neither wrote nor directed it. Hence my pointing out that he produced but did not direct it. Boy, "The Happening" sure disappointed a lot of people, uh?

And people who really LOVED his previous films, too. I honestly thought Shyamalan is going to be the next big name in the history of cinema, like Spielberg or Cameron. Sounds silly now, after The Happening, doesn't it?

Heh-heh, yeah, but then very few overnight sensations actually become big names in the entertainment industry. Most of them just fizzle out after four or five years.

Seen "Devil"... the curious thing is that it actually has some elements I enjoy from Night's movies and fixes some things I dislike about them.
Specifically: it's more suspenseful (and ocassionally scary) than just violent, the cast is fairly diverse, and the message is ultimately more moral than religious (mainly: "man up and face the consequences of your actions!").
But it keeps falling on racial stereotypes (of course the latino character is very religious and borderline supertitious; of course the black guy is pretty ineffectual at his job and actually kind of a thug. Sigh...)
So if Steven Spielberg is a filmmaker that I don't like as a director but really like as a producer... yeah, I guess Night isn't going to be a marvelous producer, either.
