I couldn't pick between those first four which to include, so now those options have double-power.
I've just discovered the brilliance of David Lean. Lawrence of Arabia in widescreen blew me away. Its become my favourite picture. Absolutely incredible.
I also loved Kwai. And i thought Passage to India was simply stunning. If you havent' seen it yet - i recommend you do. See Lawrence first, though.

Lawrence of Arabia in widescreen blew me away. Its become my favourite picture. So, how come you didn't vote? I've only seen "LAWRENCE...", "...ZHIVAGO" and "BRIDGE...". I picked "BRIDGE...". For me it has the most rewatchability of the three. One of my favorite performances by Sir Alec Guinness too.

This is a thread long overdue. David Lean is my second favorite director, next to only Kurosawa. I had to vote for Lawrence since I consider it to be the only flawless movie I've ever seen. If I had to rank the rest, I'd say...
2- Bridge On The River Kwai 3-Dr. Zhivago 4- A Passage To India 5- Brief Encounter 6- Summertime 7- Great Expectations 8- Ryan's Daughter
Ryan's Daughter was the only one that didn't totally blow me away. Lean was also planning on directing Empire of the Sun at one time. Spielberg ended up doing that and I think it turned out to be Spielber's best movie. I can't imagine how good Lean would have made it.

Lawrence of Arabia is one of my all-time favorite movies. It's so beautiful, and though it's cliche praise for this film, it's truly a film where every shot is a painting. The desert sequences and the wars were mindblowing.
Avoid the Pan and Scan version because it's easily one of the worst Pan and Scans I have EVER seen. It's so computerized and you can see it glitching all the time. And you miss out the beauty fromt the Widescreen release.

My vote goes for Bridge On The River Kwai but I've yet to see Lawrence Of Arabia. Look! There comes the Movie Police again!
