My beef with this list:
1. Spider-man 2 was a good movie, but did you guys REALLY think it was worthy of Best Picture? No Aviator, no Hotel Rwanda, but Spider-man 2? Kinda disappointing.
2. I'm also disappointed with the voter turnout, considering I postponed the deadline just to increase it. Thanks for those of you who participated, but I'm still disappointed that many of my selections went unchallenged (ESPECIALLY in the original song category)
3. Two categories were omitted, as no one voted in them. No problem, actually. I didn't vote in them either. They weren't important and would have been surprised if anyone DID vote in them. But just thought I'd let you know.
4. Shark Tale for Best Animated? Oh, wait. That was my vote. Never mind. (Just thought I'd put it out there, in case you guys were wondering.)

I'm also disappointed with the voter turnout, considering I postponed the deadline just to increase it. Yeah, I'm disappointed, too. But I think the votes of NightfallGuy and neptunes could have been used as well - true, they didn't PM them but still. And Spider-Man 2 shocked me too, being nominated for Best Picture; I saw it recently and - surprise! - liked it much less than the original.

My beef with this list: 1. Spider-man 2 was a good movie, but did you guys REALLY think it was worthy of Best Picture? No Aviator, no Hotel Rwanda, but Spider-man 2? Kinda disappointing. I think it was worthy of our Best Picture. Heck, even Roger Ebert thought it was worthy of Best Picture consideration. Besides, wasn't the point to end up with a list of nominees that didn't mirror the Academy's choices? I did vote for THE AVIATOR, but I didn't see HOTEL RWANDA. You have to keep in mind, that you work in a movie theater and it's much easier for you to see all these movies and have an opinion of them. As much as I go to the movies, which is quite a bit by normal standards, even I can't compete with someone who works there and sees them all for free. I think that's due to the fact that a lot of people here just don't go to the movies a lot, ie: Termination, LivingDeadGirl, etc. I think they catch most of them when they're released on dvd. I think a handful of potential nominees are available on dvd now, ie: RAY, SPIDER-MAN 2, KILL BILL VOL. 2, etc., but surely not enough to have a vast amount of choices. And rather than being able to vote for only a couple of choices, they opted to not vote at all. There was a recent Trivia Question of the day at IMDB, where they asked "How many of the nominees for Best Picture have you seen?". The overwelming answer was "None.". I couldn't believe it. I was surprised that that many people who visit a movie site, and took the time to vote, hadn't seen any of the nominated films. Same thing over here, I guess. BTW, I've seen four, haven't seen SIDEWAYS yet.

I'm still sticking to my Spider-Man 2 nomination. I liked Aviator and all, but would I rather pop in Spidey into my DVD player or watch Aviator again? Give me Spidey! I almost put Dawn of the Dead on my list too, just because it was my favorite horror film of the year. I did want to be a little different from the boring ass Academy!
AND I did see Ray this weekend on DVD. Glad it made the list for best picture because it was AWESOME. Best biopic of the year for me.

I almost put Dawn of the Dead on my list too, just because it was my favorite horror film of the year. I did want to be a little different from the boring ass Academy! Sure thing, Phoenix! And I do agree with your initial instinct to vote for the great Dawn Of The Dead, though I did not vote for it myself. *I* just wanted to say that to me Spider-Man 2 was a huge disappointment and that's why it had no chance of getting there. Also, I agree with Heineken's reasons for such poor participation - we generally don't see enough films in the cinema to compare all the "Oscar films" before the Oscars ceremony; look at me: no Ray, no Sideways, no Aviator.
