I didn't include any obscure titles in the poll, so if one of your favourites is anti-mainstream please vote 'other' and tell us why. I also skipped all the sex-comedies (American Pie, Porky's) and true porn (Baise Moi among them). Can't wait to discover more about the board's 'guilty taste' in movies. Will tell you what my personal favourite is when I come here next time.

I voted for Basic Instinct. Crash, hmm don't remember much of that film. Was Holy Hunter in that one?

"Crash" leaves all the other on the poll in the dust!
I in no way have, or understand, the fetish of the car crash that the characters have but as an erotic drama it's just superb. A TRULY erotic head fuck of a film. perfectly acted, directed and with a wonderful and hightly effective score. I still consider this THE most erotic and explicit and 'earthy' film ever to come from any mainstream movie source.
All the sex scenes were hot and a major turn on and Deborah Kara Unger was simply jaw droppingly sexy. And her male equivalent in the hot stakes was Elias Koteas. His scene with Spader in the car was fantastic and that erotic momentum was carried straight through into the bed scene where Spader and Unger fuck as he tells her what he and Koteas did. Great work. As is the open and explicit scene with the gorgeous Unger in the car wash.
Dark, twisted, ultimately tragic and as erotic as hell! One of Cronenbergs best imho

...Deborah Kara Unger was simply jaw droppingly sexy... Oh, I agree with that! Why isn't she playing in more movies, by the way? All in all, however, Crash didn't astonish me very much. I just couldn't see where it was going, and Cronenberg's direction left me cold - as it often does. I mean, Brian De Palma's movies - for me - may as well go nowhere and still amaze me, absorb me 100%. No such luck with Cronenberg. Anyway, Crash is a good movie, I think, but I expected to get more from it. Then again: I should re-watch it probably; maybe this time it will work better? I'm older now, dammit! Basic Instinct is pretty good, and sexy, for an erotic thriller. Can't say I don't like it. My fave is The Piano Teacher: not an easy one to watch, very dark and tense, and without much actual nudity in it, but also the only one in the poll that left me agape when the end credits started rolling. Quite an experience!

Whew!! For a second there, I thought this forum had taken an unnexpected turn. Though I think, out of the movies I've seen in the poll, that BOOGIE NIGHTS is the overall best film there, I voted for 9 1/2 WEEKS as best "sex film". Not a classic, but definitely one of my guilty pleasures. Basinger has never been sexier. The "blindfolded & food" scene. The striptease to Joe Cocker's "You Can Leave Your Hat On" may seem kind of cliche now, but at the time? Oh, momma!! Surprisingly, even though it's about the porn industry, I really don't think of BOOGIE NIGHTS as a "sex film". Don't know why. I still haven't seen CRASH. But then, I've never worshiped at the altar of Cronenberg either. THE FLY was good, though. ;D

You better not let Michael Madsen see that post... He won't be your friend any more!!! Yeah, you should vote 'other' and choose the one where Michael Madsen shows his butt... which one was it, by the way?

Yeah, you should vote 'other' and choose the one where Michael Madsen shows his butt... which one was it, by the way? That would be "Species"... And when it comes to situations like this I don't count Michael b/c he's up there on the pedastal by himself & everyone else is below him. ;D

I went with "Other" because I think the "Finest Sex Movies" are made by the Director Almodovar. His movie Live Flesh is the best and most artistically done sexual films I've ever seen. He's pretty obscure in the US so I know only a few people that have seen his movies.
Of course, it's a foreign film so more skin is shown than most US directors use. I'd say for an American movie I'd go with Boogie Nights.

Live Flesh is one of my favourite films by Almodovar, and I agree that the sex-scenes there look very nice, but all in all his movies seem a bit, uh, distant to me. By the way, have you seen Talk To Her, Phoenix? What do you think of it?

Bart - yes I've seen Talk to Her. I thought it was good, but it wasn't my favorite Almodovar movie. It was more disturbing to me than other Almodovar films, and I have to say it's probably one of my least favorite. I liked All About My Mother much better.

Morally ambiguous is another - on one hand it's brave and interesting to see something like that, but on the other - it makes you feel kind of sick. Haven't seen All About My Mother, but heard that it's one of his best.
