I just finished watching the Postman (having approached with extreme caution), and I can't believe THIS won the Razzie for worst picture of 1997. I now want to smack the Razzie voters in their collective faces. First of all, this was NOT worse than Batman and Robin.
I actually loved it. This is quite possibly the most underrated film of all time. It just seemed to me, that this film never had a chance being that it was Costner's follow-up to Waterworld. It seemed to me like he was trying to do Dances with Wolves in a post-apocalyptic setting... And while he didn't quite achieve this goal (he'll never make another Dances with Wolves), he didn't quite fail either.
I liked the minimal use of special effects in this movie. It was refreshing. Most of the movie was filmed the old fashioned way: on location. I can't get enough of that stuff.
So it's a little patriotic. So what? At least the movie doesn't beat patriotism into the audience. The story was interesting (not to mention original), and I found it easy to get into.
What do you guys think? I gave it a ****

Well I didn't hate the film, I just could not get into it. I remember so many WTF moments, I had to turn it off. Didn't like what I'd seen, which isn't to say I wouldn't give this film another chance sinse its been 8 years.

Reviews put me off seeing it, but I guess I will finally rent it some day.

Smitty, you always like these 'guy' movies I can't stand. THIS ONE IS BORING! BORING! BORING! I've watched it 3 times and the first two times I fell asleep watching it. Which is no small feat cause I have insomnia! I like Kevin Costner too - this one just didn't do it for me. Dances with Wolves is a FAR and AWAY superior movie. If you've seen Dances, you dont need to waste your time seeing this - it is like they're trying to make a Dances style epic and they fail. (IMO of course. )

I don't think it deserved the worst movie prize for sure but it wasn't definitely a masterpiece. It wasn't even great or good. But it wasn't crap on the other hand. Middle of the road film, there are a lot of them every year. Nothing special, nothing memorable but seems to be indispensable part of an effective therapy for insomniacs ;D

"Hated it. Deserved every bad review it got."
Yeah, I know I'm a little late. Somehow missed this thread before. This movie sucked, and I'm no Costner basher. I love DANCES WITH WOLVES, THE UNTOUCHABLES, BULL DURHAM & FIELD OF DREAMS. Hell, even WATERWORLD was better than this. At least that one didn't make my eyes glaze over with sleep. Talk about pretentious.
