What "Summer Films" are you looking forward to?
I have too many. ;D

SPIDER-MAN 2 is a must see for me! Big Spidey fan and I liked the first one quite a bit.
Not sure yet about DAY AFTER TOMORROW, not a big Devlin/Emmerich fan. I didn't like ID4 and hated GODZILLA with a passion. I'll read the reviews and decide then. Same with some of the other summer offerings.

Spiderman 2 I'll definitely go and see - just because I like Raimi and the previous Spiderman; but it's not a flick that makes me wake up at night counting the days to its first showing.
The Day After Tomorrow... I think I'll see it, too, after all (though I'm not much of a Emmerich/Devlin fan, either); if it works at all, it works on the big screen.
What are the other summer movies?

Well, gee, I didn't say I was waking up at night counting the days to its first showing. Just said I was looking forward to it. Yeah, besides those two, what are the summer movies? I know the new Spielberg & Hanks movie, THE TERMINAL is coming out this summer and that might be worth seeing, but what else?

Let's see...
ANCHORMAN - I love scotch. Scotchy, schotch, scotch. Down into my belly... you gotta love that.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS - Looks pretty interesting. But then again, it's Disney, whose last good film was Pirates of the Caribbean.
THE BOURNE SUPREMACY - Maybe I should watch the Bourne Identity first?
CATWOMAN - Say what you will, but I have not been disappointed by any comic book movies since Batman and Robin. I love Halle Berry, I think she's a great actress. Maybe if she can stop being a bitch and not let that Oscar go to her head, she might be a little better respected. But Catwoman looks okay. I'd like to see a full trailer, though.
THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK (?) - I can't say for sure whether I want to see this. I still need to see Pitch Black.
COLLATERAL - I actually saw this at a preview screening. What I saw was really good, and I can't wait to see the finished product.
THE CLEARING - Willem Dafoe is a bad guy. Who'da thunk it? Looks great, though.
THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW - Looks interesting. I like Jake Gyllenhaal, and I like Ian Holm. Roland Emmerich is hit-or-miss with me, though. I loved Independence Day and the Patriot, but Godzilla was horrible, and I hear bad things about Eight-Legged Freaks.
DE-LOVELY - Wow, Ashley Judd in a movie that just might not suck.
DODGEBALL - Looks very stupid, and that's why I want to see it.
THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR - If I knew anything else about it, I'd be more excited. Still, you can't go wrong with Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger.
EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING - Maybe? I don't know. Kind of... I don't know. I need to see a trailer. I'm curious though.
GARFIELD: THE MOVIE - Sure, why not. Bill Murray would NEVER make a bad movie.
HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE - I loved Dude, Where's My Car. There. I said it. I expect to love this one, too.
HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN - They pushed it back a year after the original Dumbledore died, but this still looks like it might be better than the first two. It looks all dark and spooky, and Gary Oldman makes a great bad guy.
HERO - Already on IMDb's top 250, and it hasn't even reached the US yet. This HAS to be a great movie.
I, ROBOT - Sure, it's like an unofficial prequel to the Matrix. But it looks cool. And Alex Proyas, directer of the Crow and Dark City is doing it.
KING ARTHUR - Worth watching just for Keira Knightley. I love Keira Knightley.
THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE - The original was excellent. There's some major talent going into the remake, including the director, who did Silence of the Lambs..
THE NOTEBOOK - I see some Oscars for this movie. But then again, I saw Oscars for Mona Lisa Smile last year, so I could be wrong. But still, there's some massive starpower in this, and it looks interesting.
OPEN WATER - An independent thriller. You gotta love those, they're spookier than the Hollywood kind.
SAVED! - Finally, a movie about religious hypocrisy.
SPIDER-MAN 2 - Come on, do I really need to explain this?
THE STEPFORD WIVES - I like Frank Oz. I like Christopher Walken. I like Nicole Kidman. I like Ferris Bueller. I like Bette Midler. Will I like the Stepford Wives? Time will tell.
THE TERMINAL - Steven Spielberg. 'Nuff said.
TWO BROTHERS - Why am I so interested in this movie? It looks like it's going to be really good. Guy Pearce is a great actor.
THE VILLAGE - M. Night Shyamalan is a genius. This looks great.
-------------------------
Not coming out this summer, but still...
SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW - It WAS a summer movie, but they don't want to compete with Spider-man, so they pushed it back to September. Still looks like it might be one of the year's best movies.
------------------------
Summer movies that look HORRIBLE:
SOUL PLANE - Oh come on now. They claim it's not an Airplane remake. Okay, so it's a RIPOFF. With blacks instead of whites. You think that black people will stop stereotyping themselves like this? If you're going to stereotype yourself, make it funny. Soul Plane looks like it's NOT funny. It's actually pretty sad. And isn't Tom Arnold usually a death sentence for any movie they cast him in?
WHITE CHICKS - The Wayans Brothers are good with comedy. Don't Be a Menace, Scary Movie, I'm Gonna Get You Sucka... So... WHAT THE HELL IS THIS? It looks like Bizarro Mrs. Doubtfire. They don't even LOOK like white chicks. They look like drag queens. Come on, now. Hollywood has made Charlize Theron and Salma Hayek look ugly, they made Mystique, they made the Grinch. YOUR make-up department couldn't make you look like white chicks? Come on, now. The trailer was so devoid of laughs. They really tried too hard.

Cool! Thanks for this detailed list, Smitty!
I'm picking up my summer favourites then:
Can't wait for: The Chronicles Of Riddick (saw Pitch Black again yesterday and it still kicks as much ass as always! Do see it, Smitty!) The Village (we've been talking about this one already: a Shyamalan fan, me) The Bourne Supremacy (I can't believe how much I liked the first movie! Also, Matt Damon is surprisingly good as Bourne)
Will watch: Spiderman 2 The Day After Tomorrow The Terminal Open Water (Jaws 5, eh?) Exorcist: The Beginning I, Robot
Have already seen: Hero (and, sorry to say, was bored by it)
Not sure about the rest of the titles. For instance, Keira Knightley is more than a cutie but I'm not sure I want to see another movie about king Arthur. Similar problem with Catwoman.

Thanks for the list, Smitty. Forgot about most of these. Will I see them all?
ANCHORMAN Maybe. Looks kinda funny.
AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS Probably not. Unless the reviews are great.
THE BOURNE SUPREMACY Liked the first one alot, so probably.
CATWOMAN Trailers don't look good. Unless the reviews are positive, probably not.
THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK Haven't seen "PITCH BLACK", but this actually looks good, so I'm gonna have to rent "PB".
COLLATERAL Definitely. The trailer looks really good. Michael Mann directing and Tom Cruise as a bad guy. I'm there!
THE CLEARING Don't know anything about it.
THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW Maybe, we'll see.
DE-LOVELY Probably not. Not an Ashley fan.
DODGEBALL Not sure yet.
THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR Don't know anything about it.
EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING Love the original, but this could be a mess. (2 directors!) I'll wait for trailers & reviews before I make a decision.
GARFIELD: THE MOVIE Absolutely not. Looks worse than "SCOOBY-DOO" and that was crap.
HAROLD AND KUMAR GO TO WHITE CASTLE Pass. Life's too short.
HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN Probably because the kid will want to see it. These Potter movies have been a "watch them once" affair for me. Fell asleep during the first two when trying to watch them a second time on DVD.
HERO Not sure yet.
I, ROBOT Popcorn movie. Will Smith, tons of stunts & CGI, lots of things go "BOOM!". If the reviews are great, then maybe. Otherwise, I'm in no hurry.
KING ARTHUR Looks like "EXCALIBUR - LITE". If the reviews are bad, I'll pass.
THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE This looks really good. Probably.
THE NOTEBOOK Don't know anything about it.
OPEN WATER Not sure. Still haven't seen a trailer.
SAVED! Pass.
SPIDER-MAN 2 Opening day, baby!
THE STEPFORD WIVES Probably. Like the cast and the director is Yoda! ;D The concept is ripe for a remake.
THE TERMINAL Spielberg & Hanks. More than likely.
TWO BROTHERS Don't know anything about it.
THE VILLAGE Absolutely. Shyamalan is three for three as far as I'm concerned.
SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW Can't wait to see this. looks great! Too bad it's no longer a summer movie.
SOUL PLANE Pass. I'll just watch my DVD of the original "AIRPLANE".
WHITE CHICKS Pass. Trailer looks bad. You're right, the makeup is not convincing.

The one I'm most anxious to see is The Village of course. And Spidey 2 & Riddick. Even if Chronicles of Riddick sucks(haven't heard very good stuff so far) at least I'll get to eyeball Vin for awhile.

TWO SUMMER FILMS YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT:
THE CLEARING- Premiered at Sundance. Willem Dafoe kidnaps his boss (Robert Redford). Co-starring Helen Mirren. Directed by Redford. Rated R.
THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR- Jeff Bridges stars in a movie based on a novel that covered 14 years in a struggling relationship. The film covers one year. Co-starring Kim Basinger. Directed by Tod Williams. Rated R.

It probably is. And I didn't like the previous pairing of Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger (Nadine), so I'm not holding my breath waiting for this one, either.

I just saw the Day After Tomorrow, and I wasn't disappointed. It was exactly what I had expected to be. When a director can take an MST3K-worthy screenplay (some of it WAS indeed MST3K-worthy) and come up with THAT, he needs to be applauded. Excellent visuals, good actors, great direction, unrealistic screenplay. This is what escapist entertainment is all about. ...But Armageddon is still the best.

I also saw most of Soul Plane. Skip it. For worst movie of the year, I think it's formidable competition for You Got Served.
This and the Day After Tomorrow have both been reviewed on my website.
