Er, John McClane of DIE HARD is on the list. He's #46 . And he definitely deserves to be there.

Well, I've seen the list and I'm not impressed with it overly much. Some of mine would be: Frank from "Once Upon A Time In The West" (of course), played by Henry Fonda, is my personal favorite villain; From the same film, the ravishingly beautiful Claudia Cardinale as Jill McBain; Another Leone character, Eli Wallach's Tuco from "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly"; James Bond has been very cool in all of his incarnations; The T-1000 (Robert Patrick) in "Terminator 2"; Darth Vader in the original "Star Wars" trilogy; Scar (Jeremy Irons) from "The Lion King"; Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), plus Judge Reinhold and John Ashton, in "Beverly Hills Cop", all deserve a mention; Colonel T.E. Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) in "Lawrence of Arabia"; MICHAEL Corleone (Al Pacino) in The Godfather Trilogy; Many more I'll think up later. ;D

Some of my favorite movie characters (many of whom were not even in starring or co-starring roles) include: Maude (Ruth Gordon), TEXTHarold and Maude TEXTMia (Uma Thurman), TEXTPulp Fiction TEXTFloyd (Brad Pitt), TEXTTrue Romance TEXTAlabama (Patricia Arquette), TEXTTrue Romance TEXTDrexel (Gary Oldman), TEXTTrue Romance TEXTWoody Allen (who is the same in all his movies) Mae West (who was the same in all hers that I saw -- why is it so hard to find most of her films?!) More people who are memorable in just about every film I have seen them in: Christopher Walken, Jack Nicholson, Dennis Hopper, Madonna (memorable but not in a good way!), Holly Hunter, Eric Stoltz, Robert Downey, Jr., Johnny Depp, oh dear, this list would go on to infinity -- I like a lot of actors! Ted Bundy (Mark Harmon), TEXTThe Intentional Stranger TEXTFaye Dunaway (Mrs. Mulray), TEXTChinatown TEXT...oh no, got to stop, this could really go on forever... Maybe I'm just too easy.

;D
Some more that I feel bad for living on my list is almost anything done by: Tim Roth (notable: the movie DECEIVER) John Torturro (notable: SUGARTOWN) John Goodman (notable: WHAT PLANET ARE YOU FROM?) Bill Murray (WHAT ABOUT BOB?; GROUNDHOG DAY) Mariel Hemingway (anything but STAR 80; glad she took out those big silicon boobs she had in this film!) Jessica Lange (love her in sexy roles) Joan Cusack (will always remember her for her performance in WORKING GIRL, a la, "Sometimes I dance around in the living room in my underwear. Doesn't make me Madonna. Never will."
I thought Mary Kay Place was very interesting in MANNY & LO.
Robert Duvall was astounding in THE APOSTLE.
Still there is a near-infinite list I have not yet mentioned!

Have you seen Secret Window, Michele? If yes, how did you like John Turturro's role in it? For me it's one of his strangest: at some moments I thought "The guy is great!" and at others "Ah, he went way over the top here..." My fave Turturro's role is in The Big Lebowski.
And Bill Murray... yeah, I've got a problem with him, too. Loved his performance in The Groundhog Day but found him irritating in - generally acclaimed - What About Bob?
Robert Duvall, on the other hand, is always at least good. Even in The 6th Day, for instance.

I haven't seen SECRET WINDOW. Will have to do that. Funny that Bill Murray bothered you in WHAT ABOUT BOB -- for me all irritation was transferred to the hilarity of how it drove Dreyfuss' character so insane. This by the way is one of the only roles in which I have really enjoyed Richard Dreyfuss. He reminded me of a cartoon character -- like the wolf that is always trying to kill the roadrunner. Without Dreyfuss there to add to the hilarity I would no doubt have been bothered by "Bob" too. Hahaha. It was almost NEVER Bill Murray I was laughing at in WHAT ABOUT BOB -- it was Dreyfuss. Dreyfuss had all my attention, even when he was not in the frame, just imagining how much he was freaking out. The thing I like about Murray is his persona of being somehow "forever unflustered." Dreyfuss was SO opposite that -- it was just chemistry at its most hilarious to me.
They say about Duvall, "You never catch him acting." He's not in my Top 50 actors I love to watch though. Don't know why -- just doesn't make sparks fly I guess.

P.S. the reason I mention Duvall in THE APOSTLE even though he is not one of my top fave actors is because I thought this role was near impossible to pull off with all the authenticity and innate sort of wild and craziness the part demanded. Yet he did it. He did it well and he did it real. Was like watching a pucking Magician!
