The list was created by a UK magazine (Empire again), so it may not work as '2003' for some of you lucky enough to get movies earlier... but still: try to pick the best one of the eight titles, no matter when you saw the movie.
The choice is easy for me: Kill Bill! A damn entertaining - and rather brave - offering from one of my favourite directors. Need I say more?
The surprises in the Top 8 are: Punch-Drunk Love (I can't start loving this P.T. Anderson guy), 8 Mile (the only one I still didn't see) and Finding Nemo (a great 'movie for the kids' but was it really better than Adaptation or Narc or Mystic River?!).
City Of God surprised me by winning the contest here (it also was number one on a list of another British magazine - Total Film); it's a very good flick, make no mistake, but the best of all?
Waiting for your comments, choices, complaints - what have you!

I liked a couple of the others, but some of those are strange choices for best of the year. Haven't seen CITY OF GOD or PUNCH-DRUNK LOVE yet. I don't know how you feel about Eminem as a performer, but I thought 8 MILE was a very good movie. Not the most original flick, rags-to-riches story, but still, I enjoyed it. Em doesn't embarrass himself and is actually quite good as an actor. It'll be interesting to see if he ever acts in another movie and plays something that isn't so close to who he already is.

I think I'll finally see 8 Mile someday - after all, it's got a good director at the very least. From what I saw you're right, Heineken: Eminem doesn't suck as an actor as much as I would expect him to.
A side note: no 21 Grams in the poll, 'cause the British only got the movie several weeks ago. Kill Bill would still win, though.

I chose Kill Bill. It's a no contest, really.
Is the poll really called "Best Movies of 2003?" I mean, 8 Mile, Punch-Drunk Love, and Catch Me If You Can are 2002 movies. Granted, end of 2002, but 2002 all the same.

Oh, you know: we got an international crowd here, really... It's '2003' - but for UK My country ain't even UK, you know - just the magazine I was using for the poll comes from there. Anyway, cool to have one more Kill Bill fan on the board!
