Folks, if you did, share your comments here. I saw the film, liked it a lot - well..imagine a famous actor appearing in a movie and not playing at all-just being himself;) Not only does it make the film simply very funny, but also it conveys some inspiration to a fresh look on contemporary human condition - in a way, it's cynical and sad, but also beautiful, subtle, breaking with the cliches - a real pearl, in my opinion.

Gotta see it finally. Bill Murray never was my idol (at least never of the Steve Martin or Chevy Chase quality) and his movies were always a mixed bag, but I still liked the guy and was still watching almost everything out of this bag, so observing him finally getting some serious praise is surely nice. I'll tell you whether I think he deserves it.

I didn't hate it, but I thought it was a bit overrated. I thought it started out fine and was actually quite funny at first, but it just kind of went nowhere. I enjoyed the scenes with Bill Murray at work on the commercial & the photo shoot, and the chemistry between the two leads was good, but the story just didn't enthrall me and after a while I just got bored. This is what I ask of any movie I watch: Be scary, be funny, be intense, be educational, be visual, be moving, or any combination of any of those. But don't ever be boring. 5/10 (Average)

ok, I do agree, it sort of went nowhere, and it's definitely an opposite of definitions you gave BUT, I would say the following: Translation seduced me because it just so much resembled life (..??) in its going into nowhere, its anty-climax solutions and its conveying this sense of confusion.. to me both leads were very convincing somehow;) Sure, the scene with the commercial was great, I also enjoyed the one with Bill Murray taking part in this Japanese talk show;) And, by the way, if I were Japanese, I probably would not be so enthusiastic about the movie

I also liked that it didn't go anywhere. And the ending, although sad, was realistic. The chemistry between the leads was there.
I was born on an airbase near Tokyo, and spent my first two years of life in that city, but I've never been back and to watch modern Tokyo in this movie was very nice for me. I'll never have a reason to go back and I don't like to travel, but through this movie I did in a way. Although it felt like the characters were broken and had a very cynical outlook on life, that's pretty much how I am and it's not great when that's reinforced, but I was very happy with the movie overall. I can't say I love Sofia Coppola, though. It seems to me that she's not very decisive and reminds me of a rich girl in some ways. Like, she never would have been able to make the movie if she wasn't related to you know who. But I was actually pleased with this movie.
