Sooo, has anyone seen the latest Calista Flockhart ghost story?
Set in a creepy English hospital and with a terrifying "mechanical girl" breaking the bones of its doomed patients, this must be good, right? I mean, Harrison wouldn't let his squeeze play in a no-value horror film, would he?!

After running the trailer for this movie during the last two years (I'm not kidding), it was finally released here straight to DVD.
It's a Spanish / American coproduction by Jaume Balaguero, who earlier directed "Darkness" in the same vein. Fragile is okay, but nothing special. It's also the kind of movie that keeps its mystery low-key until the last 20 minutes, when the computer-generated effects suddenly start popping up left and right for no real reason.
The plot is fairly good, through, and there's an interesting plot twist near the ending (NOT The sixth sense twist, this one is different and relatively uncommon).

Agree - plot-wise it's not bad and it has some creepy moments near the beginning, but the ending is very disappointing. Not quite as good as The Sixth Sense, in my opinion.

You might want to edit the poll above, then!

The poll got crazy after the update, I think - it's not what I intended to be, that's for sure! I'll see if it's possible to change the sucker...

I thought it looked like a computer error had stricken it.

Caught up with this one last night, and I didn't find much to like about it until the ending. Sure, the plot isn't anything special and there's a lot of down-time with her wandering around looking at records or papers (so much so that it feels more like it's part British than U.S., as you mentioned Fenril) but once the ghost is out and about, I found it a lot more enjoyable. There's a fine mystery that makes the down-time still somewhat enjoyable due to the novel and decidedly un-U.S. role of keeping children in danger and physically showing them to be the targets, something no US film would ever get away with and has a great sense of urgency and dread to the proceedings. I'd like it if there was a bit more energy put into it's pace, but overall this one wasn't that bad.
