My problem with Wrong Turn remains that it's a weak Deliverance/Texas Chainsaw Massacre rip-off with a lot of ridiculous elements stuffed into the story.
Like I said, jump from Ranger station/tower, land on ribcage in tree several feet below. No harm done to the girl. And that's just the one that stuck with me!
Creature From the Black Lagoon. Excellent film.

But L thought that you were to take one off from each decade you'd put one in from the same decade? Creature was from the 50s, while Wrong Turn was this century? I'm confuseed on that statement, Bart. You're right, I had to break some of the rules I made there - but it's been done in the name of the better quality of the list. I mean, otherwise I wouldn't be able to put either Creature or The Bride Of Frankenstein there. Quorth: I totally agree Wrong Turn isn't original. At all. But it's so damn well made I was literally on the edge of the seat while watching it - true story!

Now, what remakes and sequels should get a honorary nod here (they still don't get to the main list , though)? The obvious being: Dawn Of The Dead (1978) The Thing (1982) The Fly (1986) Invasion of the body snatchers (1978). Even better than the first one IMHO.

I agree that the '78 version had some advantages (better ending, most of all) but in this case I'll stick with the original anyway - it just had this unforgettable feel to it.
And Daniel - I thought of including some of films from your list, too (for example - the great, great Funny Games) but for various reasons I had to skip them in the end. Very SOON I will put the final version of the list here - still putting final touches to it and considering all the pieces of advice you gave me here.

Been trying to broaden my horizons in the horror genre w/ the help of the other horror fans around here. Which reminds me, you can go to the "Viewing Suggestions" thread & add your two cents on what you think some must-see's are.

Only personal choices would keep some of those off the list (I utterly despise 28 Days Later, Blair Witch Project, Signs, Sixth Sense, and The Village) and have never seen or heard of God Told Me To and Medium. But otherwise, I'd call that a great list. Ordering them now would be the hard part.

God Told Me To is a great Larry Cohen movie about a cop whos bent on finding out why many people are commiting murders in the name of God.

Both The Sixth Sense and Signs are boring films that launched a total hack's career after a whole bunch of clueless watchers in 1999 were amazed by a twist that anyone could've easily seen coming a mile away. I really never found any of his films to be good and I get angry at all of his films. I see them to see if he's changed, but they're all just nearly crap.
Blair Witch Project is nearly as bad, but once you've seen Cannibal Holocaust, there's no need to insult yourself with C-grade work at all. And it wasn't that spectacular at all in the first place.

But otherwise, I'd call that a great list. Ordering them now would be the hard part. Ordering them would be impossible! I agree with you that The Blair Witch Project is boring - plus there's not much true horror in it! - but it caused quite a stir in the horror world, that's why it's on the list. 28 Days Later and the Shyamalan's films I consider great, atmospheric pieces of cinema - a matter of taste, I guess. God Told Me To you already know about from frank (a very weird film, almost Cronenbergian), and Medium is a Polish psychological thriller/horror - much recommended but I guess next to impossible to find in the States.
