I was wondering: What's your favorite sequel to the immortal Friday the 13th? I would also like to know how the others stack up as well, so this should give us some very long posts.
My favorite is Jason X, mainly because it tries something new, it has a lot of gore in it, and my favorite kill in the series: the frozen face shatter. It is a great kill, and it actually entertained me, once I realized that I wasn't watching "Gone with the Wind."
The series stacks up like so: 1. Jason X 2. Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter 3. Friday the 13th Part 2 4. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood 5. Freddy vs. Jason 6. Friday the 13th Part 3 7. Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday 8. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives 9. Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan 10. Friday the 13th: A New Beginning.

Freddy Vs. Jason! I'm not a fan of the Friday franchise but I just love the Freddy series - there goes your reason why.
From 1 to 10 it goes like that:
#1 Freddy Vs. Jason #2 Part VI: Jason Lives #3 Part VII: The New Blood #4 Part IX: Jason Goes To Hell #5 Part IV: The Final Chapter #6 Part II #7 Part V: A New Beginning #8 Jason X #9 Part III
...it looks like I still haven't seen Manhattan. Oh well.

FREDDY VS JASON for me as well. Also not a fan of the Jason movies and have only seen a couple of the sequels so I couldn't really rate them all anyway.

#4. Lots of pace and gore.
"Freddy vs Jason" STUNK!
#2 is too cut to give a real view on.
#3 is very good after the awfully slow opening.

I went with Part 3--it's the first time Jason dons his hockey mask.

The second was good. Third was bad. Never saw the fourth. Fifth was bad. Sixth was good. Seventh was good. Eight was bad. Never saw Hell. X is hilarious. HOWEVER, FvJ kicked all their butts, because we all know that Lochlyn Munroe rules, right? Right...

Honestly, all those sequels are conglomerated in my mind into one bad movie. I can vaguely remember 2, but barely, and I may be mixing it up with 3 or 4. The only one that stands out for me that is Freddy vs. Jason just because I have seen it three times and I do love Freddy. So it got my vote.

The worst, I think, is ... just a second...
X is part ten Hell is part nine Manhatten is part 8
The seventh I viewed as the worst of the series (aside from X)--because it's pointlessly censored! Every time Jason was about to kill someone they cut to the next scene! Stupid! Evidentially, the version in the Friday Box set has those scenes restored. Also, the psychic and from-the-dead father was retarded. I thought the only upside to that movie was that you saw Jason without the mask. And that was it.

I have a soft spot for the Friday the 13th series, even if they pretty much all blur into one and are not nearly as good as Mario Bava's Bay Of Blood which seems ot have inspired some of the killings in the series {esp part 2}. Considering I haven't bought the box set yet {apparently it's not that good, the cut stuff from part 7 is seperate to the film and none of the other films are restored,we all know that parts 2 and 6 were chopped up as well!},I'll have to go by memory......
1 Part 4{too lazy to type out the full titles} 2 Part 3 3 Part 10 4 Part 8 {regarded as generally bad,but I like it,it's fast and funny} 5 Freddy vs Jason 6 Part 6 7 Part 2 8 Part 5 9 Part 9 10 Part 7
The removal of all the gore totally kills Part 7,in a series which depends so much on the red stuff. A shame because I kinda liked the silly gimmick of the telekinetic girl. No one's said how the original fits in to all this,I assume most people would rate it as the best, but I'll probably place it third or fourth.

I had to think backwards to figure it out--- Part 8 was Manhatten, part 9 was "Jason goes to Hell" and 10 was, well X.

You're right. I got parts 7 and 8 mixed up! That's what happens when you have series of nearly indentical films that you haven't seen in years. I need to see these movies again....... I've corrected my list accordingly.

I voted for part III... and to explain why, let me say what I thought of each F13 movie:
- Friday the 13th: the original... a well-made rural slasher, but not one of the best ever made. I think that Mrs. Voorhees was a much better killer than Jason has ever been [in terms of creepiness, not efectiveness].
- Part II. Pretty good, Amy Steele rocks... hated the odd twist in the ending [So what did happen to Paul, anyway? Were the entire last 2 minutes a dream?]
- Part III. I think this is the best of the lot simply because it's the least pretentious (well, except for the 3-D thing...), with a simple, straightforward story, likeable characters, a great showdown between Jason and the final girl, plust the great cameo by Mrs. Voorhees' corpse. The last great one of the series.
- Part IV. IMHO, very overrated, filled with ho-hum characters. Nice ending, tho'.
- Part V. A tiny bit underrated (but just a tiny bit), as it's more of a character study than the previous ones.
- Part VI. Very, VERY overrated, the one where they stopped being "Friday the 13th" movies and became "Jason" movies. Hated this movie's "I'm so clever" attitude, because it's not.
- Part VII. Ultra-cheesy fun, liked the "Carrie vs. Jason" concept. Brainless, but fun to watch with several friends and lots of beer around.
- Part VIII --Never seen it, didn't feel motivated to.
- Part IX - So-so. Nice twist ending, with the link to Freddy vs. Jason.
- Part X. Retarded.
- F vs J. Also overrated, but fun to watch. Loved the nods to both series (sack on the head, old Freddy's song, Mrs. Voorhees, etc.). Definitely not to be taken seriously, but again a fun movie for a keg party.
