Hide and Seek comes out in a couple weeks, and I thought I'd just get out a fair warning.
DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE.
I saw it in an advanced screening last month, and it was awful. It was Godsend bad.
My friend predicted the ending with a joke. It is a very overused ending. Not to mention there are enough unfilled plotholes in the movie to keep this tired ending from making any sense at all. Someone needs to realize they're NOT M. Night Shyamalan (no, it's NOT the Sixth Sense ending). If anyone wants me to name off a couple of movies using this ending, ask for it in PM. I don't want anyone getting mad at me when I post on here that Robert De Niro is actually Dakota Fanning's father.

Thanks for the heads up (and the PM) - these 'thrillers' are losing all their originality!

THAT bad? Damn! I, too, was kinda looking forward to it. As a matter of fact, I think that Syamalan himself should be reminded that just because the "twist ending" thing worked once or twice he doesn't HAVE to do this every time. It almost ruined WIDE AWAKE for me... and it definitely ruined SIGNS for me and a hell of a lot of people. But then, I'm straying from the topic. I think I'll still check out this one movie, just to see for myself what's what. But thanks for the warning, I guess I'll just try to find a cheaper screening or even wait till it's out for rent.

Apart from Smitty anyone managed to see this? Cause, you know, I did.
I wouldn't go as far as saying that this is Godsend bad: De Niro has a much better role here (and is onscreen throughout the whole film, not just at the start and end), the plot is intriguing, and you get Elizabeth Shue plus Famke Janssen as a bonus. The thing is, even though the makers managed to make us interested in their film they opted for the most cliched ending these days; mind you: some ten years earlier this could draw some oohs and ahhs from the audience. Also: if you hire Shue and Jansen why keep them wearing coats all the time?! This, for me, was this film's greatest mystery.

Me overview; Contains Spoilers. I broke down the film than gave my opinion. I liked this film from the get go, even after we find out who is Charlie & why Dave's office is not even unpacked. After finding out that his wife cheated on him, he kills her (Charlie) & puts her in the bathtub & makes it look like a suicide. (dave) wakes up at 2:06 am to find his wife dead, while his 9 year old is tramatized seeing her in dead in the bathtub as well. After (dave) realizes his daughter isn't getting better, he decides to take her up-state where he believes he can help her with new surroundings & people. (Dave) meets Elisabeth Shue & her daughter & envites them up to their place. (charlie) & Dakota are playing Hide & Seek the second or third time Elisabeth comes to the house. You see (dave) in his office, yet he actually isn't even there.. In fact everytime we see (Dave) in the office, he isn't even there, he's (Charlie) & he's usually playing Hide and Seek with Dakota. Dakota never liked (Dave), she liked her mother, so (Charlie) in a sense was helping her coping with the loss throughout the film. She reacts to (dave) in a hostile way everytime he is (dave) & not the fun parent (Charlie). Even after Elisabeth's character goes out the window, Dakota still likes (Charlie). One could also interpet her acceptance towards violence from the cartoons she watches, not likely though. Dakota finally doesn't want any more to do with (Charlie) when she finds out that he killed her mother by setting up Elisabeth's character in the bath tub the same way, so she calls for help. (Dave) goes into his office to find everything still in boxes. He than realizes he'd never been in there & has one last final flashback before completely turning into (Charlie) for good. Now that (Dave) is out of the picture, (Charlie) thinks he can do just about anything & nothing will get in the way of him & his daughter including the officer who meets (Charlie's) shovel. :-) So the friend from New York arrives & saves the day when (Charlie) becomes hostile towards Dakota. In New York, Dakota is drawing a picture, she is told to hurry up for school. She than adds a second head to one of the characters in her drawing before leaving. Which means she is still messed up & has an imaginary friend. The 4 alternate endings are all different takes of her & this drawing, almost irrelevent to the plot. I still like the theatrical one. This one has originality. Lets Show the audience a person with multiple personality disorder, yet lets not reveal the person, just show that personality & in the form of a kids imaginary friend. Very cool concept. I liked Robert De Nero playing a "Bad guy" once again.. finally. I liked Dakota's role, very different for her & as a rising star, she is gonna need more "Out there" roles simular to this in order for her to succeed down the road. The supporting cast was great, I liked the officer's fear of the dark in one scene. A cop whos afraid of the dark. LOL The setting/location where ever that was, looked perfect, meaning great atosmosphere throughtout. My only complaints about the film is not actually the film, its the DvD. The Dts soundtrack is trimmed down & surrounds are not used to their full potenital. The video quality is fine though.

I'll wait to rent it, or catch it on satellite. I keep seeing it available for free in our On-Demand list but never feel like watching it. I watched Ghostbusters II instead, despite seeing it a dozen times before.
