Sorry, Bart. I must disagree. Deep Blue Sea was WAY better than Open Water. Well, it was much less serious, wasn't it - Deep Blue Sea? I like Open Water for the real suspense that DBS lacked. Still, I have a soft spot for Renny Harlin movies (give me Exorcist: The Beginning finally!), so I enjoyed the cheesy fun of his shark flick, too. Agree with most of what marcel said. It just seems that it thrilled me a lil' bit more.

That's what I liked about Deep Blue Sea; the fact that it DIDN'T take itself seriously. It was just fun to watch, which was much more than I can say about Open Water.

The thing I have with Open Water is... WHILE I was watching it, I did find it scary and jumped several times... but once it ended, I was like "eh..."
In my opinion the situation is downright nightmarish, but you just don't care much about the people in the situation. I don't think this was because of the acting; I think the problem here is the script. They wanted to show the couple as just two ordinary persons in a dire situation... unfortunately they are so ordinary, there's nothing really interesting about them, and the attempts to make them interesting all fell flat --like what the hell was her job, anyway?
The soundtrack... it's mostly just background noice, which I did like. However, I HATED that song they play on the last scenes. Even a silent background would have been more appropiate.
All in all, I DO like the fact that entire movie is just the two people out in the ocean, but I think this really should have been a short on a film anthology (the kind they just don't do anymore, like "Night gallery" or "Trilogy of terror" ) --it should have never been stretched to an entire movie.
P. S. Also, I hated the extra scene that is played with the end credits. While I appreciate the comment they were trying to make, it still felt like a rather cheap way to end it all.

Couldn't agree more. When I said I didn't like the soundtrack I meant exactly this: the strange "songs" played in several scenes; I'd much prefer Open Water to have no soundtrack as such at all, just natural background noise. And I liked the closing credits footage... SPOILER...Not only did it say "Hey, sharks suffer too!" but also explained how the makers could collect some facts for their film.
