Totally on you with that stuff about the flaws, man. That felt very, very off from just 13 episodes and didn't need all those plot twists in the middle episodes (my comments about those feeling like padding just to come up with something memorable to watch for an hour or so of television have never been more true) and this really could've been a fine movie rather than a TV series since there's so much more time to fill it has to find ways of doing that. That said, again your assessments of the positives here are spot on: it's mostly the gore and the sleaze it gets away with on a TV show that was on basic cable, so I have mixed feelings about it anyway. Not too sure how it'll play out if I do decide on following the next season.

About the 13 episodes: definitely; the first season was in fact shortened to just 12 episodes and it worked much better, as it got rid of supblots that weren't necessary and instead made it all about the Haunted House and the effect it had on its' residents. Here, the focus should have been "witches kicking ass with their powers" or if you prefer a more nuanced premise "the superficial differences among women and how those differences both unite and put them against each other". But when all is said and done, a lot of things could have been trimmed down.
I've just been recommended the series "True detective" from HBO. While it's not airing here right now, I think I'll see if I can find it online. Also the anime "FLCL", so if I find either I might list them here (despite it streching the premise of this thread a bit).

- Grimm. Well, if they have done a "Bad Santa Claus" episode, why not the legend of Rasputin, I suppose.

Missed Grimm this week, so in sort-of make up, I've been watching:
- Bates Motel. - American Horror Story: Asylum.
I'll write overall reviews for both later (been ultra-busy these days, but I hope to find some time soon). Rigth now I can affirm that: "Bates Motel" is an excellent mystery series, certainly far better than one would expect from the premise (a prequel to "Psycho" --and there IS that, but it's also a very thightly plotted story about several sinister going-ons in a small town). "Asylum" so far seems to be in the middle of the AHS series --it's still not quite as scary and perverse as the first season, but it is quite disturbing sometimes, an (as of the middle of the season) it´s much better plotted than the third one.

Face Off Cougar Town About a Boy-A perpetually lonely guy finds an accomplice in life with an equally-lonely young son of his next-door-neighbor's. I know this is supposed to be based on a movie since I've heard of one with the same exact title years ago but never saw it so I don't know what it's about, but it can't be much worse than this. Rushed isn't close to describing how this first episode went as there's almost no time at all before anything significant happens (it seems the central premise about the guy finding himself in the kid should've been a major storyline arc, but five minutes into the pilot) and then turns into a typically cliched romantic-comedy quarrel that must be overcome to save each other all being done in 20 minutes. It would help if this was funny or enjoyable, but with no jokes and absolutely little about this premise that can be utilized for laughs, I'm about to call this one-and-done and won't last too much longer. Growing Up Fischer-A boy tries to keep his family together when the parents decide to divorce but still remain friends. I'm sorry, I just can't find myself to say anything nice about this one. The central plot is stupid and will not survive for several seasons on if it continues (which isn't an issue as I'm guessing this won't last beyond next month) because the biggest gimmick about the show is the fact that the dad's blind but keeps it from everybody. Not funny and really doesn't have room to grow at all while none of the characters are really that enjoyable (not really their fault: the parents are given lame concepts (the dad's blind but lies about it; mom's a former flower child who felt sorry for him in her youth and wants to make up for lost time being in the family) so we learn absolutely nothing about the two kids since the majority of the time is taken up with the parents) and then to top it off it rips off the central gimmick of 'The Goldbergs' with a narrator going over everything, only that show's a lot better with it and really shows what happens when something's given legs to work with instead of rehashing everything over again.
Chalk up two more miserable failures for NBC and a hope that the old shows return next week.

Modern Family Mixology-So, yesterday the train wrecks came from NBC. ABC just outdid them all with this pathetic, wrecked excuse for a show that I feel embarrassed at having sat through the entire experience. The entire premise (following ten people, five of each gender, through one single solitary night at a local bar as they look for love) makes for a paltry excuse for a gimmick that works better as a feature film and not a multi-season sitcom. The characters are pure and utter garbage with so many unrealistic traits and behaviors that there's no way anyone would believe people who acted and behaved like this in real life would be around in society the way they are depicted in here, and to believe that this is the modern participants of society is frightening on a level I can't comprehend. Not one of the people showcased where interesting or watchable, as the women were shallow, judgmental and bitter, while the men thought they were God's gift to the world for being born as a male and thus granted with the physical traits to deem them as such, and being around people like this is nearly intolerable. Finally, couple all of this with the outright blatant marketing lie of this not about people looking for 'love' but more of who they're going to shack up with that night and this is just out-right indefensible and wretched that deserves to get canceled immediately.

- Grimm. I can't decide if this tendency to be smarmy about their own cliffhangers is adorable, annoying, or both. A, "Oh, +@$#!" instead of a "To be continued"? Seriously?
- The Oscars, on Sunday --don't really watch this things because I care (well, as far as I'm concerned how many awards a movie won says nothing about how good or bad it actually is; and this particular award has been justly mocked thousands of times). That said, this was amusing, even if it's clear that this was one of those years where Hollywood wants to pretend it's very diverse and open-minded ["See? A Black (uh, Afrolatina?) Best Actress! A Mexican Best Director! A Best Movie directed by a Black man! A Best Supporting Actor who played a transwoman! We're cool, right?"]. Still, entertaining enough. For the record, I think Ellen DeGeneres is a pretty funny host.
