Really glad you liked my review.
As I wrote, I really liked that book (minus a certain point about the handling of the Brazilian characters), very classic Straub.

I liked the novella a lot, too. Maybe it ain't my one favourite of all Straub's stories but man, I think it's the creepiest of them all - the ending just kicks you right in the face, doesn't it? And yes - I love your review as well and I'm looking to more of them!

Yeah, it does! I think Straub tends to work best with the short format, be it short stories or novellas --my favorite book of his remains "Ghost story", and through that was a novel, it's composed of vignettes that could very well be short stories themselves.
