"In the spirit of slayrrr's sister threads to the Mexican horror one, I'm starting threads about horror movies from assorted countries other than the US, UK, Italy or Japan (simply because those are the countries whose horror film productions are easier to find on a global scale, so they would be better known)."
Seen any horror movies from Brazil and if so, what did you think of them?
This would be mostly Ze do caixao / Coffin Joe movies, through a few genre productions have appeared since his time.

I've seen 5 Coffin Joe films:
At Midnight, I'll Take Your Soul This Night, I'll Possess Your Corpse Awakening of the Beast Hallucinations of a Deranged Mind Strange Hostel of Naked Pleasures
First two are definitely the best, if I had to choose I'll say Corpse is the better but really, you can't go wrong with either of them. The last three are weird more than scary, but man do they have some interesting and arresting visuals in them, like waking nightmares in a sense yet still retaining a horror feel rather than just being weird.

I definitely agree with your comments; in general Zé do Caixão / Coffin Joe is one impressive director. And unlike similar cult filmmakers like Jodorowsky, his movies remain horror all the way through (well, most of them).
His earlier movies were definitely better. My personal favorite is the first one, À Meia-Noite Levarei Sua Alma, but the second is still quite good.

I've only seen Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre, so I can't say anything else about him, but he is definitely someone I wouldn't mind seeing exposed on a greater scale over here.

- Trancado por dentro [Locked from inside] (1986). A young girl is hired to look after a quadraplegic old man for the night. When her boyfriend comes over to visit, the two decide to have some fun with their host. Unfortunately for them, the old man isn't quite as harmless as he seems...
Clever short from director Arthur Fontes (based on a comic by Bruce Jones) with a nice buildup and a great twist ending.
It's available in it's entirety on Youtube.
