Striking Back - well, I'm not sure anyone saw it, really, but why not check, huh?
It was directed by Sean S. Cunningham, so everybody expected a newer version of Friday The 13th; what they got was an average thriller which only works because there are good actors in it - in their early roles, with early looks: James Spader (check out the hair!), Eric Stoltz (check out the hair!), Tom Atkins (check out how long he's in the movie!) and this cute girl from The Full House. It's never bad but it's never thrilling, either, and the ending - the most violent part of it - proves that more blood wouldn't make it any better.

I haven't seen this one, what year did it come out? I can't believe I missed something w/ Eric Stoltz in it.

If you're a fan of Eric - this one is a must for you, livingdeadgirl! He has never been any more rusty than here! ;D
The year was 1985. And you may know it as The New Kids.

Yep, been a fan of his since 'Mask'. The New Kids doesn't ring a bell either, I'll have to look this one up. Thanx for the info!

Yeah, he was good in The Mask. Though at the time I didn't even know it was him, of course - back then I was just watching movies without caring too much about the opening credits or the cast or stuff like that. Some years after I read that it was Eric - and was rather surprised by this.
Anyway, have a good time hunting The New Kids!

I'm sure you mean "Mask", not "The Mask" as in the Jim Carrey movie. But anyway, yeah, you really couldn't tell it was him under all that make-up. But he did an outstanding job, & that movie is still one of my favorites to this day. Makes me cry every time.

I had thison an old VHS once.
From what I can remember it was okay. I only reallt remember the finale in thw carnival fairground and something about a viscious trained dog the loonies had.
I was into chessy revenge flicks and picked it up with that other early James Spader cheese fest "Tiff Turf"...as he kicked high school ass with the help of his wheelchair bound chum!

livingdeadgirl: yeah, Mask is the title - sorry; I'm not a fan of such sad stories but it did make some impact on me.
RIP: it's about two teenagers - new in town - who have to defend themselves against a bunch of guys; everything ends in the carnival fairground where some blood just has to be spilled (but not much real slasher gore there - despite Cunningham being the director).
42nd: is the British title Striking Back or The New Kids?
