I'm sure you all heard by now the California justices' decision to uphold the controversial Prop 8, which eliminates the right of same-sex marriage in California.
The measure passed by a 52%, most of those people probably believed all the lies that were presented on TV.
Being from California myself, I'm very angered and saddened... even frightened by the blatant ignorance in my state. To the point where a measure was put on the ballot to ELIMINATE rights, and passed.
And the Supreme Court, which is SUPPOSED to protect us from the tyranny of a majority (which - it wasn't THAT much of a majority to begin with), decided to uphold this ridiculous measure for some reason or another.
I don't believe this will ever be a truly free country until everyone has the same rights. And it's scary to me how easy it is to scare people into voting those rights away. I am ashamed of my state. And I'm certain that future generations will look back on these times with that shame.

I don't believe this will ever be a truly free country until everyone has the same rights. Couldn't have said it better myself. Hard to believe that in 2009 there are still people in this country who don't have the same rights as everyone else, but there you have it. Rest assured though, it'll happen eventually. Keep in mind, at one time, women and African-Americans couldn't even vote and now we have an African-American president and a woman ran against him in the same election. The times they are a-changin', but the change almost always comes slowly.
