SUPERBOWL XLIII (Great game! Arizona almost pulled it off at the end there. What an upset that would've been. Some amazing moments, Harrison's run (Wow!), Fitzgerald's touchdown, and of course, that catch by Holmes. Good halftime show by Springsteen. Except for a handful, the commercials this year were kind of lacking.)

George Carlin-The Mark Twain Prize Rather funny eulogy/retrospective of his career (I know it's not the time it should've been, but oh well) featuring people like Lewis Black, Joan Rivers and Richard Belzer introducing clips of his work throughout his career, from rare early TV appearances to more recent stand-up work. Really well-done and effective look, mixing the laughs with the respect of what he's deserved. Well worth a look for fans if you can catch it.
The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment (Disc 1) Well, it's the early years, so he's not there yet, but it's still fun to go through the stuff that got me into watching at the time. Forgot some of the stuff on here, covers the 97-early 99 years.
Matches- Intercontinental Title: Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Rocky Maivia- A little bit underwhelming compared to what's coming out today, but serviceable enough. Too many punches and simple slams, but it does have a watchability to it.
Intercontinental Title: The Rock vs. Owen Hart- A little short, but quite fun. A lot better than the first one, but shows the brawling style that became famous at the time.
King of the Ring Quarterfinal: The Rock vs. Triple H- Starts to show the greatness of what's to come, a lot better than their first match and easily the best of them so far. The brawl between the two factions at the end sweetens the deal.
WWF Title Tournament, Finals: The Rock vs. Mankind- The second Survivor Series in a row with a screw-job, only this one makes sense and actually works well. Yeah, the match itself is fun, but it's the booking behind this one that makes it work. Heel Rock is grossly underrated as well.
WWF Heavyweight Title, Last Man Standing: Mankind vs. The Rock- A lot of people say their I Quit Match earlier in the year is the best, I prefer this one. The brawling is better, the spots more inventive, the psychology behind the leg is one of the more effective tactics in any match and the double-countout is effective. I'm switching to this one as the best on the disc.
WWF Heavyweight Title, Ladder Match: Mankind vs. The Rock- The night after, again another fun match and much better than the I Quit match. Last Man Standing is still their best match, but this is still a fine end to the fued.
WWF Heavyweight Title, No DQ: The Rock vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin- I never got the big deal with this one, I prefer Parts 2 and 3 in their trilogy much better. A couple of fine spots, and the ending is a lot of fun, but the others are much better. Good enough, but not the best.
Quite a fun disc, looking forward to the next ones, which are where I'm more familiar with.

The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment Disc 2- Oh. yeah. Now this is The Rock I know and love. Really getting into his stride here, with the perfect balance of his highly underrated heel work with his most popular face at the time persona that made me a fan.
Matches- Steel Cage Match: The Rock vs. Triple H- Yeah, it doesn't hold up to more awe-inspiring steel cage matches of today, but the match is still a lot of fun and watchable. Fun spots, fun commentary and again, a lot of overbooking to the finale that makes it a lot of fun.
WWF Tag Team Titles: The Big Show & The Undertaker vs. The Rock 'n' Sock Connection- Rather confusing entry here, not that him winning the titles wasn't a fun time but the inclusion of it is a little weird. Not that it's bad, but compared to many of his other matches from the time I remember, this was nothing special. That there's also the confusion involving The Undertaker leaving in the middle of the match, with no one except the commentators even picking up on it, leaves a lot to be desired.
No Holds Barred: The Rock vs. Kane- Much too short to really get into, and another that seems weird for here. Not really memorable outside of the two big bumps early that didn't even mean anything because they shrugged them off and went back to the ring like nothing happened.
WWF Heavyweight Title: Triple H vs. The Rock- The Backlash 2000 Match. Let's do a little history for this as well-The WWF was giving us this, the WCW had The Fingerpoke of Doom. Yeah, they were going to last. My all-time favorite Rock match, so much fun and still a shout-out-loud finale despite all the overbooking and familiarity.
WWF Heavyweight Title, Steel Cage Match: The Rock vs. Shane McMahon- Just a ton of fun, much better than the earlier one with HHH. Again, more overbooking fun, but considering it's Shane in there, that's expected. Tons of fun spots, great commentary, just a tad short considering.
WWF Heavyweight Title: Kurt Angle vs. The Rock- During Kurt's chickenshit heel reign, like he was going to face Stone Cold at Wrestlemania when Austin/Rock II was going to be the big showstealer. Despite that, you almost forget that when you get to one of the hottest finales in the series. Awesome finishing sequence, a lot better than expected.
WCW Heavyweight Title: Booker T vs. The Rock- Hmm-I never thought Booker T was anything more than a JTTS (jobber to the stars for those who aren't up on the lingo) while The Rock is the best all-time, and he basically spends most of the match no-selling his offensive, the way he should've. Nothing special, but it's fun seeing him get his ass kicked. Shane's as well.
Undisputed Championship: Chris Jericho vs. The Rock- Another one overbooked to hell and back, but man did it work once again here. Tons of fun, lots of big spots and the single greatest heel victory of all time, makes up for The Rock losing. Man, that ending never gets old.
So, one of the greatest collections of his matches yet, and with the next one offering two of my favorites in his Wrestlemania match with Hogan and Austin/Rock III, that one should be just as good.

The Rock: The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment Disc 3: Okay, it's shorter than the others, but that still doesn't mean there's some absolute classics here.
The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan- The legendary Wrestlemania 18 encounter, sure it's nothing much more than "you hit you're moves, I'll hit mine and when we've hit that time the people told us to hit in the back, just don't kick out of whatever I use" but man is that entertaining. The after-match schenanigans are also a ton of fun.
Unified Heavyweight Title, Triple Threat: The Undertaker vs. The Rock vs. Kurt Angle- I know a lot of people call Benoit/HHH/HBK at WMXX the holy grail of triple threats in the business, but take a lot at this match first before claiming that honor. This is an awesome match, back-and-forth-and-forth between all three, including several great spots where everyone uses someone else's finisher to try to get a pin. A lot of fun, and he wins a title to boot, so it's great.
Non-Title: The Rock vs. Eddy Guerrero- Not really that impressive at all, outside of one of the most inventive counters to a move ever done, but it's just not that impressive outside of it. Could've dropped this and added some more extras.
The Rock vs. Steve Austin- The Wrestlemania XIX encounter, perhaps one of the my favorite matches of all time. Not just because he finally wins against Austin at the big one, but it's just a ton of fun, works in so many fun spots in plays against their previous wars and the roles are reversed: Rock's the heel here, not the face like he was in the last two encounters. Is it better than the second one in the trilogy? I don't know, but it's a great match in any event.
Extras are a bunch of promos, some are great (including holy grails as "My Name is Billy" and "Meeting the NWO" as well as personal favorites as "Great Balls of Fire" and "Taking Booker T to school") with some not so great ones (was the interview with Busta Rhymes for Halloween: Resurrection really necessary, and if they're going to talk about The People's Strudel, why do the 15-second spot where he first says it instead of doing the back-stage interview with the female announcer that got the phrase over?) but there's some laughs to be had. An absolute riot, though, is a compilation of clips labelled one-liners, which is just off-the-charts hilarious. Still, seeing so many great moments captured in the clips and not being able to see them in their entirety (we don't get any of The Rock's Concerts, which were comedy gold, heel or not, and the only Austin/Rock verbal sparing we get is a ten-second spot that's pretty much ruined for time by the audience's laughter at it) but then there's a bunch of clips highlighting his abuse of the backstage interviewers, so it's all forgiven.
