Sounds like you really liked it, but you only gave it a 6/10? Wassup wit dat? We're going to try to see it tonight. Ok, well maybe I should've given it like a 7 or 8. Inglourious Basterds 9/10- Usual great Tarantino. Can't really add much more to what Heineken has already said. Great acting, great dialogue, great performances by Pitt and Waltz. Loved it! Wrong Turn- Trying to catch up on my unwatched dvd's stack and I was in the mood for some blood and gore.

DARK PASSAGE (1947)
A man convicted of murdering his wife escapes from prison to try to prove his innocence. In order to not be recognized, he gets plastic surgery and when he heals he looks like Humphrey Bogart! He is hidden and aided by a young artist played by the lovely Lauren Bacall.
Film-noir classic with an interesting gimmick - we never see the convict's face until after he removes the bandages from the surgery. Until then, we only hear Bogart's voice and all the other actors speak into the camera, which is supposed to be his point-of-view. So for the first 40-something minutes, the star is never seen on-screen. Thought that was kind of neat and original.
7/10

Since I can't get to my review papers, here's a quick run-down of some stuff I've seen:
Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus-A high-quality Sci-Fi Channel Creature Feature, though strangely was not as up to par as some of their others this year, and considering the title pretty much guaranteed a lot of fun, it feels like a slight let-down due to criminally short action scenes or the ultra-atrocious CGI that tends to feature in these films. A lot of big action scenes near the end save it and an interesting middle-section keep it afloat, but I still call it a disappointment.
Infestation-As there's about 20 different titles out there, this one refers to the latest Sci-Fi Channel one that aired a few weeks ago but I just barely saw now. Wasn't all that great, considering there was a ton of questions for this one (where did the bugs come from? What was their purpose here? Why were they attacking everyone?) combined with several other prominent questions about the general situation and it definitely slides down the totem pole. Again, a fun finale and a great monster do save it, but this one was just too problematic to be anywhere special.

I'M GONNA GIT YOU SUCKA (1988)
Spoof of 70's Blaxploitation movies starring Keenan Ivory Wayans as Jack Spade, a soldier who's just returned to his old ghetto neighborhood following the death of his brother. After his mother and sister-in-law are threatened, Jack is forced into fighting back against a powerful crimelord named Mr. Big. He is helped by John Slade, a neighborhood crimefighter from the 70's who puts together an army of his 70's era friends. Good cast featuring such African-American 70's icons as Jim Brown, Isaac Hayes, Bernie Casey, etc., but the comedy is only so-so. Tries to do for 70's Blaxploitation what AIRPLANE did for 70's disaster movies, but it only sometimes works. It felt like it needed a lot more gags to make it truly funny.
5.5/10
MAMMA MIA! (2008)
Based on the Broadway hit about a young woman who is about to be married, and wishes her father were there to walk her down the aisle, but she doesn't know who he is and her mother won't discuss it. She finds the diary her mom kept during the year the daughter was born and figures that one of the three men her mom had affairs with that year is her dad. She invites all three to the wedding and assumes that she'll be able to tell which one is her dad as soon as she sees him. Let the hilarity ensue. All the music is based on songs by 70's Swedish pop group ABBA. Meryl Streep does a decent job as the mom. Pierce Brosnan as one of the potential dads doesn't fare as well. The former 007 is no singer.
This wasn't really for me.

Some more:
Spring Break Shark Attack-This one actually wasn't all that bad at all. Sure, the first half of the film was a typical teen drama that centers on a dull, completely pointless love triangle and a totally watered-down, PG-13 feel for spring break, capped off by a wholly unnecessary rape attempt in a shark movie that merely manages to keep the sharks out of the movie so it has time for it's "stars" to get acting experience under their belts, when it finally manages to get going it's actually enjoyable. We get two big attacks here, one out in the ocean and the other is perhaps one of the greatest scenes in shark movie history as over a dozen sharks literally attack a floating platform on the beach at once, resulting in well over a couple dozen deaths, tons of blood-splatter, and even some cheesy death scenes as well. It's also worth noting the sharks aren't CGI at all, which gives it another point. Would've been much better had it dropped most of the beginning.
The Eye-The original first, which I thought was a decent if really uneven entry. The story is okay, if nothing spectacular, and the mere storyline that it takes definitely provides some fun once it gets going, including an exceptional sequence within a small, rural village with a typically-creepy looking ghost, a brutal flashback and perhaps as over-the-top finale as there could be when a whole city block and the cars on it blow up in true action-movie style. The middle half, though, is completely muddled with a lot of boring, low-driven exposition that doesn't make a lot of sense or carries any kind of importance or suspense to it, a series of lame and completely non-threatening ghost scenes that don't come off scary at all, and overall this one manages to turn out quite decent. The remake, which is pretty much the exact same way, manages to score higher due to the fact that it's middle segment is a little faster-driven and has a couple really good scare scenes, while the original suffers due to a lack of them.

GODS AND GENERALS (2003)
Civil War epic and prequel to 1993's GETTYSBURG. This time focusing on the rise and fall of Lt. Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson (Stephen Lang). A great performance by Lang and very good battle scenes. Also stars Jeff Daniels as Lt. Col. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and Robert Duvall as Gen. Robert E. Lee.

Red Dawn-I had never seen this one before, and really put it off for the simple fact that everyone I knew of spoke so highly of it that I figured it wouldn't live up to their praise, which I found out was sadly true. Now, don't get me wrong, this is a good film, I just wasn't entertained by it through one simple fact: it didn't measure up to my action film guidelines. I have mentioned my requirements for action films numerous times on here, no need to mention them again, and this one here failed to put much of those into practice, leading me to impatiently ask when something else would happen, not a good sign in an action film. Some of the gunfights aren't bad, but chalk this up as a massive disappointment. 3.5/10

Haunting Sarah-Lame Lifetime non-horror about a deceased child using his fraternal twin sister to come back into the world after not accepting his death, and the freak-outs of his mother and her twin sister. Great premise, but nothing at all in here was played up for scares, the slow-burning story offered no excitement and the usual Lifetime style problems (drama substituted for suspense, lame attempts when it actually tries to be scary, way too many situations that could've been solved by a single question that are allowed to drag out pass their usefulness just so that the main female character has something to brag about in the cast, etc) came into play. So disappointing, considering there's been some good stuff to come from there. 1/10
The Forsaken-Not a whole lot to say, I've seen it before and can now add the uncut version into the collection. Decent enough at times but nothing groundbreaking in the genre and definitely could've used a little more excitement in the beginning. Heats up nicely at the end with a series of great battles, bloodshed and more, plus some fine nudity, but overall acceptable if not spectacular effort. 6.5/10

A couple of weeks ago I went to see Rob Zombie's Halloween 2, and forgot to post it. Thought it was really good and lots different from his remake of Halloween. It was more "Rob Zombie" if you know what I'm trying to say. But I read after the success of Halloween, he pretty much had free reign to do whatever he wanted to do with 2. I'd probably give it a 7/10.
