I read on IMDb.com that it was blasted by fans and critics alike, and hailed the "Worst" Bond theme ever. This made me curious, so I went over to YouTube and listened for myself.
Really? WORST Bond theme ever?
It's easy to see where this mentality comes from.
1. It doesn't hold a candle to Chris Cornell's "You Know My Name". But is that really a fair comparison? I mean... You Know My Name, in my opinion, is not only the best Bond Theme, but one of the best songs ever written for a movie. I can still listen to that song today, and be excited about it.
2. Evidently, people blocked Die Another Day out of their memory. Because THAT was the worst Bond theme ever written. I'd sooner listen to this new theme ten times over before listening to Madonna sing, in her techno-enhanced voice, "I think I'll Die Another Day" for 3 1/2 minutes.
Is the song perfect? No. Frankly, I don't see why it had to be a duet. It would have sounded cleaner if one person was singing it. That being said, I think it more than does its job as a Bond theme, and dare I say it, I enjoyed it. It's different. It's a fresh sound, and I can dig that.

I still think Moonraker and The Living Daylights had terrible themes, much worse than Madonna's one. But then I've never really given a crap about the songs, it's just three minutes out of my life that I can skip to go make my popcorn or make sure I've got my bladder empty before two hours of goodness anyway.
