Are these two 1989 Lucio Fulci films good enough to buy? I heard good things about House Of Clocks but The Sweet House Of Horrors is usually criticized - would you guys agree with this division?

ONLY "House of Clocks," the other is truly B-A-D. I have both.

I already saw both: Sweet House Of Horrors is a pain to watch, while House Of Clocks is mildly entertaining. NO essential Fulci here.

I mark those up as only for completists that can never get enough Fulci. House of Clocks is okay. Definitely not what you want to start watching Fulci with.

What would you guys recommend as "Essential Fulci?"
I've only seen "Zombie" (Zombi 2) and "House by the Cemetary"--the latter of which I thought was pretty awful.

What would you guys recommend as "Essential Fulci?" I've only seen "Zombie" (Zombi 2) and "House by the Cemetery"--the latter of which I thought was pretty awful. As for the recommendations, here is a good list to start with: City of the Living Dead (Nice zombies, love the blood) Nightmare Concert (It's got good gore, so sue me) Manhattan Ripper (Good gore, and plenty of nudity) Don't Torture the Duckling (Great early giallo effort) and perhaps his second-best effort, The Beyond (Look this one up on-line for a good overview of this movie) Any of these films will make fine choices for those wanting to get into Fulci. You didn't like ''House by the Cemetery?" I actually liked it. One of Fulci's more coherent plots, a convincing monster, and that trademark Fulci gore. It's defiantly top five for me. As for House of Clocks and Sweet House of Horrors, see only House of Clocks. I'm a true Fulci fan, and even I think there are problems with "Sweet House of Horrors."

I have seen Manhatten Ripper--I forgot about that--knife in the eye!!
I watched House by the Cemetary on a crappy old, old old, old old old VHS. So that may have had something to do with the experience.

I watched House by the Cemetary on a crappy old, old old, old old old VHS. So that may have had something to do with the experience. It may. For me, too, House By The Cemetary is one of Fulci's best. Not as good as the classy Manhattan Baby, though, hehheh... No seriously: it's still my fave Fulci film. The Beyond, City Of The Living Dead - must-sees as well. Waiting impatiently for your opinions, Quorth! PS: When talking about Manhattan Ripper you surely meant New York Ripper, didn't you?

PS: When talking about Manhattan Ripper you surely meant New York Ripper, didn't you? Uh, yeah. Ohhh, hell, this movie just came back to me! Wasn't this the movie where the fuckin killer would talk like Donald Duck whenever he killed someone?? I fuckin' laughed my ass off all throught the damn thing!

That's the one, Quorth! This really was a weird idea to choose a Donald Duck voice for the killer and it makes it difficult to treat all its blood and gore with seriousness, but hell - I still like it. Some nudity in it, too.

I think all movie fans should have to see that--because a Donald-Duck-Voiced-Killer is just so incredibly, bizarrely weird. And unbelievable! Who'd believe such a thing would exist if you didn't actually see it?
