Here's some interesting comments Boll made at the premiere of the movie: "I want to make a long speech now because I assume that 80 percent of you will leave during the screening," said Uwe Boll , just before the premiere. "Everybody hates me because I base my movies on video games. And I hate Hollywood, especially distribution companies." One guy on IMDb claimed to have seen the movie and Uwe Boll was there. According to that guy, Uwe Boll claimed that the internet community hates him because he's "German and makes his films with Nazi money." The claimed that those were basically Uwe Boll's words.

Thank you, Smitty!
I've been sifting through the reviews of this monstrosity on IMDb--and holy hell are they angry and mean. Probably a quarter of them refer to Ben Kingsley as "picking up a paycheck" while about half refer to Michael Madsen as either drunk, hung-over, or just plain bored.
Yours is the first I've seen anyone say anything positive about the sex scene!

Yours is the first I've seen anyone say anything positive about the sex scene! Might I add that it's one of the few that actually says what happens? However, the meat Smitty added makes me want to see it more. This looks exactly like the crapics I love. Odd, a negative review makes me want to see it more. Even odder, it seems as they he never really wanted to go see it since all the other Oscar-contending movies were already reviewed and this was the last one still showing. Looking at his other reviews, you can tell that he's not a big fan of these kinds of movies. Look at his reviews for "Doom" and "Brokeback Mountain." Like they written two different people. Not trying to single ya out here man, but that's what it seems like to me.

I gotta agree with yah, Slayrrr. Reviews as crappy as I've read about this movie make me want to see just how bad it really is.
If I sat through Blood Lake, Amityville 4, and Troll 2--I think I can tolerate Bloodrayne. I've been watching too many "good" movies of late, I could really go for some crap. I don't want to pay to see Bloodrayne, though.
Man, I love writing hateful reviews of awful movies...

Well, I'm not really trying to dissuade anyone from seeing the movie. I mean, when I see the words "An Uwe Boll film" slapped on there, first I think: "So it must be pronounced 'oo-we', not like 'you'." Then I think, "Oh, it's gotta be crap." Still, I have to see his movies. It comes from watching MST3K. My love for watching incredibly craptastic movies like Pumaman and Manos, the Hands of Fate. That's why I must see all of Mr. Boll's movies. And if you are like me, and got a kick from watching Plan 9 From Outer Space, by all means SEE this movie.

while about half refer to Michael Madsen as either drunk, hung-over, or just plain bored. I've read that in a lot of reviews too. In one article I read someone said that he was so drunk he couldn't even ride a horse right. Almost fell off...

For all the guys: If my mentioning of Kristanna Loken's breasts made you consider paying to see this (or just want to see the scene I described in my review), put your money away. WARNING: The video contained in this link is unsafe for work.It doesn't link to the video itself, just to a SFW page with a link to the NSFW video.

Has this been discussed? How Uwe Ball makes bad movies on purpose, because then he avoids a German tax loop.
Apparently though, he shipped too many reels of this film, so it was under 25 million before it even was released.
Take that Uwe.

I guess I'm the one on here that actually enjoyed this one mimghtily:
"Bloodrayne" isn't all that bad when it's really looked at objectively.
**SPOILERS**
Deep in the heart of Romania, vampire slayers Vladimir, (Michael Madsen) Katarin, (Michelle Rodriguez) and Sebastian, (Matthew Davis) hear a story about Rayne, (Kristanna Loken) a woman believed to be a monster of some sort. When she escapes capture and leaves the carnival, she learns of her fate to acquire a special amulet to battle the vampire master Kagan, (Ben Kingsley) who is Rayne's father. After reluctantly meeting with Vladimir, Katarin and Sebastien, she agrees to help them in their fight to overcome Kagan and his army of vampires.
The Good News: There's actually a lot more than what would seem to indicate. The setting is one of the best features, as it's such a welcome change from what is normally given to us about vampires and is a nice addition. It also plays a part of it being a nice sweeping epic-look to it with the sweeping vistas and swelling orchestral scores and the general overall look and feel to it. It's a real pleasant change to see a film go for a feel like that, and this one scores it right. Perhaps the best aspect to this is at times the blood and gore. Heads are chopped off, torsos ripped in half, throats exposed to red geysers, chests slashed, arrows shot into eyes, blades plunged into mouths, limbs severed, corpses hacked apart, and much, much more. This is a really nice and bloody film, and is kept to the forefront as much as possible, resulting in a pleasing film to gore-hounds. There's also several really impressive individual scenes spread throughout the film. Near the beginning, a carnival man drags her out who's under his control and spills water on her arm, resulting in severe burns and then slices her other arm. He then slices a farm animal and gives her the resultant blood, who drinks it and her wounds instantly heal back to normal. A sequence where one character is trapped inside a quickly flooding cavern is nicely suspenseful, as is a similar underwater brawl that lasts for quite a while. The carnival massacre is a nice set-piece, as are any of the various battles that take place. Those are the best sequences, as there are several well-choreographed extended battles here that wouldn't seem out of place in a medieval movie. The story is nice and easy to understand without the side-plots coming in, and the pace is utterly frantic. This is far better than what is said about it.
The Bad News: There is very little in here that didn't work. The main thing that hurts this is the side-plots that are thrown in from now and then to add more to the story but actually take away from it. The main gist is good enough and serves the film well since there's only a single thread that covers the action. When a new idea is brought up, it only confuses rather than explain. There are some moments of stupidity present, mostly in the third act that doesn't require any explanations. The capture and eventual escape from the cell is the biggest one, and is groan-inducing. That's really all that bothered me with this one.
The Final Verdict: It's not as bad as what's been said about it, and really should be given an objective viewing. It's far better than the usual films of the type, and it has some nice scenes to go along with it. Give it a fair shot with an open mind, and you'll find yourself liking it.
Rated R: Graphic Violence, Language, Nudity and a mild sex scene

The only thing I really enjoyed about it was Madsen (of course) and, as you said, the blood'n'gore.

If you enjoyed the gore in here, check out his other works. It's by Olaf Ittenbach, and he has several films on DVD available, including his masterpiece Premutos: Lord of the Living Dead, which is wonderfully reviewed by yours truly RIGHT HERE ( ;D) and the final 30 minutes of that movie put so many gore films to shame.

The main thing about this movie that has my interest, is that supposedly, Michelle Rodriguez and Kristanna Loken, after meeting on the set, are now dating. ;D Yeah, I'm a pig. So what?
