I know it's a predictable thread but since Wes Craven is one of my favourite horror directors, Nightmare my favourite horror franchise and I recently bought the Nightmares 1-5 box set, I just couldn't resist starting it. I'm very curious what the rest of you guys think of those movies!
The original is my pick - which is pretty obvious if you have seen my Top 5 Horror titles already. I didn't just choose it because it's the first one, no: I hate doing that (in fact, I'll never say that the original Friday the 13th or the original Halloween are the best ones in their series; they sure are the most iconic ones - they both were a kickstart for chains of films - but that doesn't make them perfect); I chose the original Nightmare because to me it seems to be simply the most interesting and coherent of all the Elm Street movies - Freddy is a mystery (instead of the joker of the latter parts), Heather Langenkamp a cutie you don't want to see dead all that soon, Johnny Depp has a nice hairdo, and the soundtrack noises are bound to haunt your dreams if you watch the movie alone, late at night and - preferably - using headphones.

"Johnny Depp has a nice hairdo"
LOL!!! Yeah, that's why I picked it too! ;D
But really, it's easily the most serious & scary of the bunch. This was an easy choice. Part 2 was the worst one, IMHO. I also enjoyed the recent FREDDY VS. JASON for pure shlock fun. Actually enjoyed it more than most of the actual "NIGHTMARE" sequels.

I haven't yet seen Freddy Vs Jason though it's been sitting on my shelf for some time now; I swore I can be tough enough to watch it after revisiting all five Nightmare movies... now I'm pretty close to finally spinning the Versus disc - only Part 5 left!
Also, I was surprised at how much I liked Part 2 this time around: I remembered it as easily the worst one in the series but now - when I noticed it's one of the most concise and serious of all - I think it's not half as bad as my memories want it to be, and at least recognisable (while parts 4, 5 and 6 kind of melt into one, in my opinion).

I've seen all of the Freddy movies and to be honest, the only one I really remember is the first one! The first one was great, and the rest just seemed to go downhill after that, at least for me anyway. I vaguely remember scenes from the Dream Warrior movie, but not much, mainly the scene where Freddy corners the girl with the drug addiction and his fingers turn into syringes. Creepy. So...the original got my vote!

Seems this will be one of the easiest victories in our polls so far!
However, if there's anyone who thinks that Freddy's Dead kicks the original movie's ass to a bloody pulp - do tell us! We're nice chaps here, don't laugh at anyone - whatever the taste ;D
Oh, and Sybillness - the scene from The Dream Master that I remembered the best is the one with a girl changing into a bug; creepy as hell, and with good f/x! The syringes scene is cool too, though.
Edit: the syringes scene is from Dream Warriors, of course, and the bug scene from The Dream Master - my bad! Now you see what I meant saying they melt into one for me.

Easy choice...#1 all the way baby! ;D Freddy vs Jason was pretty cool...i've always been a loyal fan of both franchises though so... There's a rumor floating around (RUMOR being the operative word here) that another Freddy vs Jason movie is in the works & somehow Ash from Evil Dead will somehow be in the mix. THAT would be cool! Bruce Campbell is God! ;D But like I said..it's all just rumors right now.

Hell, this reminds me I still haven't seen the Versus movie! Was dying to get it on DVD and now that I got it (several weeks ago) I stopped caring? What's wrong with me?!
Also, don't pronounce the original Nightmare a winner too quickly! Not all horror lovers on our boards voted for their favourites yet! I bet 42nd can surprise us picking Dream Warriors or The Dream Child!

One was by far the best. I liked the serious Freddy... he was really creepy. 2 sucked and the rest were all fun, but were lacking in the scare dept. Wes Craven's New Nightmare was fantastic though.

I had my issues with New Nightmare but it still seems we feel more or less the same about the series: it's lots of fun even if sometimes it's difficult to call it 'horror' anymore. Did I say I went as far as to liking Part 2? I think I did.
