I have no idea why it took two years to give this movie a proper release, it was a very well-made film. Perhaps the Hollywood producers felt it wasn't markettable... And I can't say how many good movies got the shaft because of that.
Off the Map is a beautiful film about a family who lives in the middle of nowhere. The movie focuses on a 12-year-old girl who has to deal with her father's depression and the isolation of where she lives. Her only friend is her Godfather, who is also her father's best friend. Soon enough, her mother finds out that she's being auditted.
Joan Allen (The Notebook, The Bourne Supremacy), Sam Elliott (Tombstone, Hulk), and J.K. Simmons (The Ladykillers, Spider-man 2) are all central roles in this film, and they are all great. Sam Elliott's character development is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Young newcomer Valentina de Angelis was excellent, and should be in more movies.
If you're lucky enough to live near a theater that is playing this movie, go see it. It's slow at a few points, but most great movies are.

This sounds good, though I don't expect to catch it at Polish theatres at all. Just for the Sam Elliott character I'm interested in seeing it.
